Re: What does it take to launch a rocket in 6 hours?

I think what's happening in this discussion is that there is actually 2 discussions going on. One is the theoretical spreadsheet exercise of 6 hours of production to get the science and components for a rocket launch, which is mostly what I'm talking about. Then there is the discussion of actual pra...

Re: What does it take to launch a rocket in 6 hours?

I'm not familiar with helmod so may be misunderstanding the output, but it looks like you aren't using productivity modules anywhere? P3s on the silo more than pay for themselves, even for a single rocket. It's such a no-brainer that every single speed runner does it. Throwing P2s in yellow and pur...

Re: What does it take to launch a rocket in 6 hours?

Also I'm pretty sure you can drop the satellite if you are just after the achievement. You are right, just launching the empty rocket is enough to finish the game. Did that change? I thought you needed the satelite. That's probably wasted the last 1-2h. https://www.factorio.com/blog/post/fff-275, l...

Re: The right amount

ok thanks a lot, what now if instead of using inserter i want to cable the belt itself ? same procedure ? Yes, set belt to read contents and pulse, just as you would for an inserter. The difference will be that you may get less precision on a belt vs an inserter, it depends on how important precisi...

But this (english) is another under "Power Consumption" https://www.techspot.com/review/2636-amd-ryzen-7950x3d/ Interestingly enough, last one also test Factorio and the result seems to differ slightly from factoriobox samples. They probably used a rather small map. They use the "def...

Re: Pollution Factor, per second? per minute? or per unit?

A machine says it puts out 30 pollution a minute. If my evolution PF is set to 10, does that mean i do 10 * 30, or 10 * 1800? the game doesn't actually say. The wiki suggest by the minute, which would be nice since i don't have to convert any numbers then. I think the answers here went off on a tan...

Re: Do biters expand only in explored area?

Given that it is possible to have multiple "forces" in Factorio, each with their own set of "explored" chunks, even defining "explored" is non-trivial. My understanding is the same as Fury, they will select from "generated" chunks, even if your force hasn't ch...

Re: Can't understand hate for handcrafting and love for early malls

It comes down to how you naturally play the game and think. eg. if I want a row of AM1s, I can craft from plates at ~7s per assembler. I find that too slow. Ok so you keep green circuits and gears in your inventory as well as plates. Now the craft time is barely worth worrying about. But what about ...

Re: Best CPU available: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKt7fmQaGfQ&t=641s Ultimately I agree with Loewchen. The 7950X3D is the best CPU you can currently get for Factorio, *if* you disable the CCD without the extra cache (which HUB did in that linked video). However the 7800X3D will be released soon and will gave prac...

Re: Undergound Pipes Should Be Locked Behind Research

Like with all suggestions, I think the standard "how does this make factorio a better game to play" question applies here. "More realistic" != better. In addition to what Fury said about ground pipes being impassable, you also can't mix fluids in pipes whereas you can mix items o...

Re: Bus/Rail oil products

Yep, I think we agreed on all the major points and just arguing over minor ones. 33% is just 40/30 - 1, ie. the amount of extra heavy oil (after cracking to light oil) you need to get the same firing duration. Or equivalently the amount of extra duration you get by using heavy instead of light. If y...

Re: Bus/Rail oil products

There isn't a linear ratio between DPS and fuel used due to the flight time of the flames and any misses due to trailing the target. But even if we assume there is, heavy oil cracking has one of the longest payoff times from productivity modules. It will take quite a while to save an equivalent amou...

Re: Bus/Rail oil products

If you are trying to conserve crude, heavy oil is actually the best flamethrower fuel. But I agree that in most setups they consume so little you may as well use whichever fuel is logistically easiest (which tends to be crude most of the time).

Re: How common is it to deconstruct EVERYTHING and start over late-mid game?

Nevermind, I see logistics robots and auto trash was disabled......but I sure as hell didn't disable it. I guess its just one of those things that decided to fuck with me. Not sure this ever got answered. The usual reason that gets disabled is cause you respawn. The game does this as when you respa...

Interesting. I've loaded and unloaded with circuit controlled inserters before but each item always had specific wagons and chests that they used. Never thought to try otherwise.

Re: 2023 A.D.: things to try in Factorio after launching a rocket before the DLC arrives

You can use combinators which can free up the requirement having to put certain items into certain cars. I'm a bit confused about what this means. Are you talking about loading items into arbitrary wagons so that the train as a whole ends up with the desired number of items? And then somehow routin...

Re: Train Overview - Only 1 Train Per Schedule

I'm not sure if you are asking, but here's a common way other people use trains. For this to make sense, the first thing you need to understand is this: * Trains navigate based on stop name. They only remember the stop name in their schedule, they don't use an internal stop ID or a map coordinate, t...

Re: Why are you guys so pressed?

Speaking as someone who only started Factorio at 1.1 (I did try the pre-release demo, but generally don't buy early access games), I look back at the community reaction to some changes that were ultimately positive IMO and can see why they don't want to put something out only to get reactionary push...

Re: [0.17] Make Pipette also copy recipe

Others have made the point that copy paste does what is wanted for the most part. I'll admit sometimes I have wanted pipette to copy recipe too, but the two issues I see are: 1. You generally use pipette to just get a machine ghost in hand without having to search inventory or quick bars. If you dro...
