Re: railroad best practices
One more note on the trains with 8 cargo wagons. With 3 Locomotives chances are higher that your train can run over groups of evolved aliens without being stopped I have not intentions of using my trains as weapons. If any biters ever get close to one of my trains, something has already gone very, ...

Re: Noob intro + baffled by Kovarex
I have the process up and running (I'm awash in U235 and fuel cells) but I can't figure out the magic of skimming off that 1 unit of U235 automatically The simple method is to use a standing train as a big box. It has to include a locomotive and needs to be parked at a station, though, just so you ...

Re: railroad best practices
Based on https://calculatorio.com/train_acceleration/, time to top speed is only slightly greater for 1-8 on nuclear fuel than 1-4 on rocket fuel, but given other considerations with moving from four to eight wagons, it's a good time to add an additional locomotive. Another site for the bookmarks, ...

railroad best practices
Hello, until now I'm set on trains of four carts, satisfying (at most) four blue belts. I don't expect that I'll ever run more than four blue belts out of any given train stop, placing another stop easier than threading lots of belts. My trains could still satisfy the load, but with quick turnaround...

Re: Fluid System - multiples
But what about this: tank -> pump -> pipes -> pump -> two-tanks Here, the two tanks never fill completly. The line will just stop pumping as soon as the double-tank is about 75% full. This gets even worse if there are more than two tanks at the receiving end. Errrm.... cannot confirm? I have setups...

Re: Fluids are killing me
It seems i need to practice more with this system. Wise words. I have no sense or feeling for what is going on in my refinery. The good news is that I don't really need to know. Circuit network shenanigans ensure that I always have enough light and heavy oil left over to make solid/rocket fuel and ...

Automating train construction?
Is it possible to automate the creation of trains?
I can assemble locomotives and carts in a machine alright, that is not the problem. I wonder if I can also automatically put them on rails and have them all fuelled up and ready to go.

Re: Returning player questions
What is your rough estimate of number of iron ore to build a rocket, either without (much) opposition or with serious crittereness? ;) This can help me decide more or less what I want/need to play the style of game I prefer. I'm not sure if that is a good way of thinking about it. I'm a rather new ...

Accounting for integrated production
This is probably not really a gameplay question, yet I can't think of any other place to ask. Sorry about that. And anyway, I should probably first explain what I mean by "integrated production": I noticed that most green circuits go into making red & blue ones. So I've built assembly ...

Re: When can I (safely) start with nuclear power?
Get noticed, there is an info by small letters down there, in the https://factoriocheatsheet.com/ that those numbers of storage tanks are "without the thermal capacity of other parts. " Sounds like something minor, but is not. Let me thank you for that bit of information -- and if i alrea...

Re: When can I (safely) start with nuclear power?
I'm kind of necroing an old topic and it's probably way too late for you, but perhaps not for others.. I don't think four weeks is a necro, thanks for the reply! Perhaps the most important lesson learned from that project was that conventional power does indeed go a long way. I've been seeing my po...

Re: Any information on current fluid mechanics
I know no more about the fluid system than what I picked up from the wiki, but I just tried something similar and cannot confirm your observation (v. 1.1.25): Tank -> 30 pipes ->tank I filled the first tank and 29 pipes with water, then cut the pipes coming from the pump, and placed the 30th pipe to...

Re: Please help with train stops
I have tried everything! Has soon has I put a curve in my track, I am unable to put a train stop past that curve. Why? What am I doing wrong. The only thing that comes to mind: you can only places stations where the track runs either vertical or horizontal, but not when it's diagonal on your screen.

Re: Reset a Combinator Clock
Necro Necro -- OP probably no longer cares about an answer, but when I searched for how to reset a clock this topic came up first. So I think it's a good place to post my solution. I am using, in order: a) A Steam Gauge with SR Latch for hysteresis. Will emit T=1 when steam is OK. a1) An arithmetic ...

Re: When can I (safely) start with nuclear power?
edit: if using accumulators, you'll want enough of them in the power grid to support use for a couple seconds as the heat from new cells takes a moment to propagate to the exchangers I wondered about the accumulators... every screenshot I see has both solar panels and accumulators for emergency pow...

Re: When can I (safely) start with nuclear power?
If you plan to build smart reactor with steam storage, you're totally safe. I never even considered a non-smart reactor. I figured that this is not done... Each 235 is good for 80GJ of power, more if you have a bigger reactor core, 1x2 - 160GJ, 2x2 - 240GJ. This can go a long time at your current u...

When can I (safely) start with nuclear power?
I'm currently at the point where I connected the first external mining sites. For the time being, it feels like I have more than enough iron copper & steel. Power consumption currently is about 20MW. I have 20 furnaces set up, which ought to be good for 36MW, and I will now have to pay attention...

Can I limit the range of the personal roboport?
I've equipped three personal roboports, because I can. Now the bots go off to what seems like the far end of the world... triple ports not only increases the number of bots I can use, but also inflates the service area. I don't have many upgrades yet, so it takes the bots a lot of time to get there ...

Re: Fuelling a locomotive with conditions
Asking here rather than starting my own thread: how does one check he amount of fuel present in a locomotive? This doesn't seem to happen in the above examples, or if it does, I'm totally missing it. To me it looks as if the inserter will count fuel into the locomotive whenever it stops at the stati...
