Thanks for the replies.
sadly, I haven't come around to trying one or the other approach: shortly after posting the question I decided to start over from scratch and am still far from launching the first rocket. It's only a question of time until I have to look at that blueprint again, though.

Re: Train balancing between loading and unloading stations
It's for ore mines. My setup is like this: [...] What you describe sounds as if you had a general shortage of ore. There's simply not enough coming in, so the factories farther from the mines are starving. (reads OP again) Yeah, you even say as much yourself. The obvious solution is to build more m...

how to debug factory designs?
So I've planned a bit of factory and now I'd like to see if it works as expected. With belt based production, you can easily see if a belt is full or not (that's not the whole story, of course, but bear with me for a moment) but I'm trying bots and it's pretty hard to spot if an assembly machine run...

Re: Fuel / KM ?
if 1 Nuclear Fuel = 160 km ( around ) and loco is 2k weight then 3 times heavier Train Train will go 3 times less distance... right?... It does not strictly work that way. In my understanding, fuel will be consumed either at a fixed rate (when accelerating / traveling at top speed) or not at all (w...

Re: regarding guns in the late game
Couple steam storages attached to turbines are surprisingly small footprint. I've watched the power consumption of my laser turrets and couldn't quite decide how much power I'd need to bring. IIRC I had peak loads on the order of 60MW+, but that were only short spikes in consumption. 40MW came up p...

Re: Liquids processing in large quantities
But having lot of small refineries has one significant downside for me - that is train control: http://factorio.schnobs.de/just_some_refinery.jpg The one thing I learned is that there is no right way to play Factorio. You and me, for example, appear to have wholly different design philosophies. I'm...

Re: regarding guns in the late game
Gun turrets are very strong with green ammo. They probably alone deal enough damage to survive endgame waves. Indeed they do. I've tried in the meantime, and their stopping power is ridiculous. You're probably right that gun turrets alone could do the job without any flamethrower support, though I'...

regarding guns in the late game
I'm playing railworld (default otherwise), so no enemy expansion. My artillery placements are strictly temporary, one-time only affairs. After an area has been cleared, the walls and turrets are packed into a train, to be used again at a later time in another place. Currently I'm using flame thrower...

Re: How do I not overfill a box? Or a railway cart, for that matter
My workaround for the time being: a filter inserter and reading the stack inserter's hand contents. If there's less than a handful, the stack inserter is presumably stuck and the filter inserter removes the item in question, one at a time, into a provider chest. Still prone to some weird behaviour (...

How do I not overfill a box? Or a railway cart, for that matter
I want to fill a train with construction materials. For example, one wagon is supposed to carry two stacks each of all kinds of splitters and underground belts, also 4 stacks each of several types of inserters, plus some odds and ends. I went over all the item slots on the wagon and assigned them a ...

Re: Building Megabases with the right Game Settings
My problem is in games I always getting into situations where I spend the majority of my time finding new mines, killing bugs around the area, and building train stations to ship it home. I guess it depends on what scale of "Mega" you have in mind. I've never gone beyond a couple hundred ...

Re: How do I save UPS for megabase?
While we're at it, what's the cost of circuit network shenaningans? I'm on a default map; ore deposits are not large enough that mining directly into the train would be an option. Right now, I'm sending the ore flow through a balancer, then split-split-split it towards the inserters loading the wago...

Re: Option to include entities / tiles / trains / station names in copy&paste
Not trying to hijack this, but a quick interjection: it's possible to copy whole trains? Or is that a mod thing? I know how to copy a train's color and schedule, but I'm placing the trains themselves one item at a time: loco, cart, cart, cart... I'd very much like to know how to copy-paste a whole t...

Re: Do you do integrated production? And how much of it?
It seems to me the question you were really asking is ... when making (for example) Rocket Control Units, do you just train in Speed Module 1βs and Blue Circuits, or do you train in the Iron Ore, Copper Ore, Coal, and Crude Oil, and make every intermediary product to output the Rocket Control Units...

Re: Do you do integrated production? And how much of it?
How much science/second (or per minute) are you looking for? I have been trying to start with the Rocket Fuel. Make a fair amount extra, as this is also used to fuel trains. I then make Green Circuits, Red Circuits, Blue Circuits areas. Hmmm. I notice that, perhaps, I should have spelled out what I...

Do you do integrated production? And how much of it?
I'm currently still doing everything in my "initial" factory; the plan is that I move out all the production for science packs to dedicated plants where I can set things up such that everything will be produced in matching amounts; in due time, the starter factory is supposed to serve as m...
