Re: Is the jump from science pack 2 to 3 too large?

Honestly, I don't the problem is with science...it is with oil. I wouldn't really say that there is a problem with the science or the oil system in general the problem I see is the ratios. SP1 requires 2/5ths of the raw resource types and so does SP2 but at a ratio of 1:3.3... raw units over SP1 th...

Re: Is the jump from science pack 2 to 3 too large?

It is well known that the first steam engine was built in a cave, with bone and stone tools  Mine or Cave! what is the difference? Hands definitely contain bones! and you can't make iron without breaking a few stones So very loosely, technically your statement is absolutely correct. I agree th...

Re: Is the jump from science pack 2 to 3 too large?

My design goal was to NOT have a gap between assemblers. Because reasons :) Well that is a good enough reason :) lol but like you said it will work fine with a substation, either way I think it is a good design, I am impressed but I think it really provides a good point as Tricorius states I'm ente...

Re: Thoughts on 0.13 Terrain Generation

Maybe it works for some in wacky/derpy way, but i was able to get what i want with less problems than in 0.12. I thing i start to like new world gen. I have found in Factorio since 0.9.x that I have had to restart maps several times before I found one that I liked and started to play, so 0.13.x has...

Re: Is the jump from science pack 2 to 3 too large?

Why does advanced oil processing need a separate science pack again? You're not getting any new products from it, you just shuffle a couple of pipes to do the same things you could do before, just more efficiently. I don't think they meant adv oil as in the research, but rather using more complex o...

Re: Is the jump from science pack 2 to 3 too large?

IMO Spyder has boiled it down nicely and gives weight to the OP's suggestion of needing an intermediate 5th science stage. ie Science pack 1: Basic automation Science pack 2: Intermediary automation Science pack 3: Basic oil Science pack 4: Adv oil Science pack 5: take the fight to the aliens Which...

Re: Thoughts on 0.13 Terrain Generation

I don't think you can call the 0.13.x map generator broken a such, the OP's pic is just showing the inconsistencies between 12 and 13. For me the fact that 13 even loads saves from 12 is amazing, because every other alpha game that I have played with persistant randgen maps, required a new game. IMO...

Re: Is the jump from science pack 2 to 3 too large?

I also think the 4 science pack tiers should give a feel of regularly increasing complexity, instead of the irregular progression we have now. Currently, I feel it's like "discover fire", "discover the wheel", "make a nuclear bomb", and finally "learn how to carve...

Re: [MOD 0.13] Warehousing v0.0.10

is there an easy way that I could replace the graphics, so the current warehouse looks like the old smart warehouse? Yup, just unzip the latest version, replace the graphics/entity/warehouse-basic.png file with the smart warehouse graphic, and re-zip the mod. Don't even have to zip it... Thanks, th...

Re: [MOD 0.13] Warehousing v0.0.10

First I must say thankyou so much for this mod, I can't play Factorio now without it.

I like the old smart warehouse look better than the basic warehouse,

So my question is, is there an easy way that I could replace the graphics, so the current warehouse looks like the old smart warehouse?

Re: Friday Facts #142 - Playtesting

Ok, I inserted a rail into the "crane" image, and it fits. So, I definitely think it is a train station. http://i.imgur.com/K7coiMb.png There is suspicious amount of wires around the rails. My guess that this would be more like counting/redirecting station for trains, or cargo reader. It ...

Re: Minimum Requirements for Headless server

@robopilot99 are you sure that is truly an i686 and not a Pentium 4 in an i686 case?

1.5Ghz is crazy fast for a 686, I remember roasting mine at 240Mhz lol, probably should have put a fan on it.

Re: Minimum Requirements for Headless server

Cheers for the links, I will definitely be checking them out. Thanks The old Q6600 still has a lot of power really and I am pretty sure that it would be ample for the task, however my i7 2600K is generally doing nothing; even when I am working flat out on it. So the local VM is just easier to setup ...

Besides, it's not exactly common for pirates to go legit. But it is far more likely than you think! It is well known that someone who pirates games as a child (ie while in a "poor" financial situation) is far more likely to invest substantial capital in gaming as an Adult (ie when their f...

Re: Minimum Requirements for Headless server

Thanks for that info SyncViews. Setting up the server on EC2 is still on my todo list, as I am still just mucking around with the settings etc on a local VM, However I ran into another potential problem of ping time - even though my local upload speed is crap (ie time to make a coffee every time som...

http://eu4.factorio.com/assets//img/blog/fff-141-locomotive-movement.gif Could we please have a complete looping GIF of the train completing a full loop Eyegasm! or Eyespasm? Re: Minimum Requirements for Headless server

Well... my little adventure came to an end with an "invalid instruction" error. I guess it turns out trying to run Factorio on a 20-year-old i686 machine isn't supported. As for the command line documentation that can be found on the wiki https://wiki.factorio.com/index.php?title=GameClie...
