Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
Its a bit necro I know, but I just read your late game FF post and I have some thoughts. Working on that promotion from Acolyte to Necromancer I see :P I'm presently playing a late game and it is getting a bit meh. I can't be bothered to build a rocket, attacking biters is a bit grindy and I am not...

Re: Friday Facts #133 - The train struggle
To be honest, vertical and horizontal difference is not an issue and in some cases is part of puzzle. With that we have choice to make longer station with more inserters or shorter that require less space. Don't take away that possibilities. The main issue is wagons position that don't fit grid and...

Re: SOLAR or STEAM [poll]
I dislike solar. i don't really disagree. Solar Panels are very... easy. so easy that i feel lame using them(outside of small scale deployment for small outposts or just as a bit of supplemental power for smaller grids that aren't connected to the mains). and infact, am totally fine with managing t...

Re: A couple of tips
Only those with this stupid but pointless hobby of mine knows how slim was the chance for that to happen. For comparison, here's the same line with three more japanise-english-zulu iterations: "This is boring fun game. It is not to deal with other action game online" Sorry, did I go off-t...

Re: intelligent crude oil management with switch anyone?
Im looking for a automated solution to shut down the oil pipeline between tank and refinery down as soon the crude or heavy storage tank reaches half of their given capacity. I'm sure it can be done easily. Anyone can help an newbie with a screenshot and decent explanation? Problem is -there is ref...

I would have to agree with Ssilk on this one, you guys are trying to make oranges out of apples. The only reason that C++ has a NULL values is to be backwards comparable with C; a language who's compiler roots come from back in the days when Zeroing a memory address could actually be considered an o...

Re: How do you clearly describe circuit networks in forum posts?
I would have to agree that some sort of standard is needed for this task and where else better to obtain this standard, but to create it here :) To date this is my best effort at trying to explain a circuit network (CN) https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=21311&start=240#p137569...

Re: Bad gateway when trying to purchase?
Had the same issue yesterday, my VISA card was correctly debited (the bank has received the authorization), but I got the (unknown) error with Braintree. This mean the amount of 20€ is blocked from my bank account as long as the payment authorization is valid (7 to 10 days)... Yep, we're sorry abou...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
We need both. This statement boils my argument down to its very base line quite nicely; glad we can agree :) My original quote IMO I don't really see the need to transfer any other liquid other than Oil or Water by rail as Oil can be used to create all other liquids other than water. Was more to hi...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
The only problem with tanker that appears to me is, like a loader from previous FFF , it is highly specialized entity and doesn't fit perfectly into Factorio concept. However this one at least has sense)) IMO I don't really see the need to transfer any other liquid other than Oil or Water by rail a...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
tehroach , nice setup, however this doesn't really allow to make max from oil (I use setup where refinery block contains up to 4 refineries with 4 productivity3 modules each and a beacon with 2 speed3 modules, that more than compensates speed loss from productivity modules - making 40% more from oi...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
Having the ability to transport Oil by Barrel give me the option to do it all via one train with one carriage. By utilizing the basic oil processing and converting waste into solid fuel this can also be achieved in a dry environment without ever needing extensive pipe networks. I'm fiddling exact w...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
I don't really see the need to transfer any other liquid other than Oil or Water by rail as Oil can be used to create all other liquids other than water. Oh yeah, water transporting should be very nice, especially in "small towns" setup in quite dry maps. Water by rail will be a very nice...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
Regarding the barrels -- obviously how Bob's mod does it is a dirty hack to work around the limitation that barrels can't hold different stuff like, I guess, tiny tankers. Presumably, SHTDI but it'd be quite doable to implement some "arbitrary beltable (liquid?) container" API and hot-con...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
Barrels interface between pipes and belts etc. Something that tankers simply can't do. Do pipes & belts really have to have interface between? We could argue the finer philosophical points on this till the cows come home, But removing barrels will remove a feature that is currently in the game....

I am a purest and run only Steam, because I like playing in the mindset of a 1900's industrialist; Biters are the "Greenies" and they are my enemy! :P LOL Due to my game play preferences involving alot of trains, logic networks and attempts to reduce temporary infrastructure (a large perce...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
Yer I don't think that rule really applies here, ie what if they decided to add a different ore? would the rule apply then? No. Fluids are a general item in the game, same as ores etc Adding a new resource that adds completely new technology/production cycles/gameplay that don't exist yet OR adding...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
[huge post] You forget that the Factorio dev's try to follow a certain rule: They don't like to add items that are either extremely specialized or would clutter the menus. That's why they will probably NEVER add 7 barrel types, one for each fluid. It's an insanely specialized solution due to a spec...

Re: Friday Facts #129 - The late game
Please don't remove the barrels from the game! It would completely remove the need for interesting designs like this one [...] It is not that I am against the adding of the fluid tanker, BUT in a way adding the oil tanker goes against some of your own philosophies about Factorio!; The same philosop...
