Re: Nintendo Switch version feedback

Yeah, I wonder if there is a way to slim SE to work on the switch. A lot of SE content is the intriguing complexity of the recipes (eg, arcospheres). Dunno if they sell enough on the switch to make it worth while for the effort required or if the mod author really wants to. I wonder if this consider...

Re: Friday Facts #373 - Factorio: Space Age

there are no steering engines (except for the turrets recoil). You can't steer or turn, thus you can not stop. Actually, that's a good point. Accurate acceleration/deceleration and all the challenges that entails would be a great mechanic that would go to the heart of the original factorio. This wa...

Re: Expansion hype thread - Any updates on when/if there will be an expansion?

3d completely misses the point. People are addicted to crossword puzzles and solitaire for a reason. Gameplay is 100x more important than eye candy, which is just a flash in the pan. Factorio is forever! It sounds like they've made a lot of improvements to the modding capability in the expansion. Ho...

Re: Expansion hype thread - Any updates on when/if there will be an expansion?

My biggest complaint is that late game SE is too easy. You should have to explore more planets / utilize asteroid fields more to complete the game. Some of the puzzles are cute, but the replayability isn't that great. Except for the arcospheres, very inspired. More entity mechanics would be good, bu...

Re: Expansion hype thread - Any updates on when/if there will be an expansion?

OK I have decided to create my own expansion fantasy because Wube isn't helping here. <fantasy> So, tomorrow the expansion will be released!! The expansion will largely be based on space exploration, but with massive improvements. 1. Lore will be hugely written. Yes, the universe will be 'generated'...

Re: Looking for a new challenge? [Veterans only]

Yeah, if Bobs creates mixed enemies that need the full suite of turrets + landmines to repel them, that'd be fun. Fast moving armored biters to take out the land mines, mirror biters to take out the lasers, flame resistant biters... The only thing that works are uranium magazines! hah.

Re: Looking for a new challenge? [Veterans only]

Oh for sure, but I believe there's a bit of a difference between nice to have and absolutely must install flame turrets guarding every inch of the hills you're going to be dying on from the get go or otherwise you're completely borked. It's really nutso. TBH though, in Vanilla DW marathon, I can usu...

Re: Looking for a new challenge? [Veterans only]

In Vanilla, biters don't seem to attack pipes and power unless aggravated. They do in rampant, which makes things a bit trickier. Agreed, but when combining this with Death World Marathon, it just becomes impossible to get to oil quickly Yeah, doing anything quick in Marathon is a big challenge for ...

Re: Looking for a new challenge? [Veterans only]

Do enemies attack infrastructure in Bobs? That and pheromones make Rampant pretty hard. The one solution I've seen for Rampant is to get to oil at all costs, even if it means rebuilding from scratch. Flame turret everything. The other idea is I think there are some weapons mods which make it more ba...

Re: 2023 A.D.: things to try in Factorio after launching a rocket before the DLC arrives

I'm a bit confused about what this means. Are you talking about loading items into arbitrary wagons so that the train as a whole ends up with the desired number of items? And then somehow routing everything where it needs to go at the unload station? Or am I missing what you are getting at? Yes, yo...

2023 A.D.: things to try in Factorio after launching a rocket before the DLC arrives

Here are a few things lately I've personally found engaging and fun after launching a rocket. It's a subjective list, but hopefully some other folks might enjoy trying these challenges as we wait for the DLC to ship. There's likely been some threads of this nature before, but they'll be full of outd...

It's not my base, but I saw this on an animated menu screen. Would be curious who did this, quite a work of 'art'

Re: vanilla death world too hard

I'll reload on marathon, because anything else would just be craaazee, but my autosave timer is set to 3 hours. I don't mind restarting on vanilla though, cause I enjoy starting fresh anyways. Also makes for a good excuse to take a break from Factorio, which you really need sometimes. :) In general ...

Re: vanilla death world too hard

Death world is fairly easy. Just make sure you get land mines as soon as possible, and avoid wasting iron on magazines. Glad you're playing hardcore. It's the only way to fly! Once you're done this, try out marathon deathworld. Finally, if you're looking for actual impossible, try vanilla deathworld...

Re: Why are containers UPS problems?

All I know is that this is not the first time I've seen this come up on these forums and I have seen dev responses saying that containers are optimized and that so far all of the instances of "but look at this, this case is slow!" have been cases of modified containers with hundreds of sl...

Re: Why are containers UPS problems?

As a programmer myself, I think it's very easy to look from the outside and think "it should just work, right?". And I've stepped it that trap a lot, because code is more complicated and not as simple as it seems. Yeah, sometimes it's possible, but is it a good idea? I always try to guage...

Why are containers UPS problems?

I was reading somewhere the following. Not sure if it's accurate: In: every slot checked with the first to see if there's room, stopping at the limit if there is one. Out: Every slot (limit doesn't matter, you can manually put stuff in the red/limited slots) checked to see if there's something that ...

Re: Optimization idea: abstraction

So, I've talked to some different folks about this. At the end of the day, it's a mod. A great mod, but will always be a mod. Factorio is a game, not a science, and while abstraction for some of us sounds like a huge amount of fun, for the vast majority it's more chore than game playing. Abstraction...
