Re: Friday Facts #264 - Texture streaming

Thanks for the VERY interesting article.

A quick question though: is VRAM the amount of GB you have on the GPU?
I have a GTX-660 with 2GB and 32GB of system RAM.
Does that mean I have only 2GB of VRAM, and therefore belong to the bottom 25% of players?

Re: Friday Facts #261 - Performance + New player interaction

Regarding the tutorial: DON'T use modal dialogs. The reason for this is that you can't act upon the information while the dialog is open. And, after you close it, you can't look back to see what it said if you can't properly do the steps. I would STRONGLY suggest showing the information of every ste...

Re: Bugs & FAQ

@Blackbeared
See my post (3 posts above yours) for how to change it. viewtopic.php?f=185&t=25468&p=378717#p378120
Where it now says 'value = 200', change it to anything you like. E.g., 'value = 1000'.

Re: Bugs & FAQ

There is a bug(?) in the Angelssmelting_0.4.5 in the 'smelting-override-global.lua' file. It states: --OVERRIDE FOR BASE ores = { value = 200, list = { "iron-ore", "copper-ore", "stone", "coal", "uranium-ore" } } angelsmods.functions.override_item_co...

Re: Friday Facts #255 - Construction tools

Will copy-paste work without bots? Like, small and locally? It's probably my #1 pet peeve, if you want to scale quick in early game, it feels super grindy running up and down in straight lines doing the same thing over and over without making choices and getting in to the meat of the game. If I cou...

Re: Friday Facts #255 - Construction tools

Research queue : 9 Cut'n'paste + copy'n'paste : 10+ Thank you, thank you, thank you. A quick question about cut'n'paste. Can I select a large area, press <CTRL+X>, move my cursor 1 block, press <CTRL-V> in order to move a whole area a tiny bit? My self-imposed OCD tells me I need/want things to alig...

Re: Version 0.16.51

Was it confirmed that Duracel objected to the batteries? If so I really like the suggestion of asking one of the competitors to use their battery look. If Duracel objects to free advertising and plays silly games with trademarks then lets support the competition. That is actually a really good idea...

Grrrrrrr, hate the new look. I guess I'll have to install a mod now to get batteries to look normal again? NOT a good change! Here. I agree... WHY DID THEY HAVE TO DO THIS?! :x It's so damn hard to understand all this weird reasoning for such a stupid change. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Thanks a ...

Re: Version 0.16.51

The difference between that and "Google" being a verb for "search" is that Google should be happy that people say "I googled that on Bing" but Microsoft should hate it. That is CERTAINLY not true! If someone says 'I googled that on Bing' and does a search on Bing then ...

Don't they mean : DRM on top of Steam's DRM?
I guess the games on that list have a loader that checks whether Steam is running or not. If not, they start the DRM free version, else they start the Steam version. (I'm guessing)

Re: Friday Facts #248 - Not Saturday Facts

Playing on multiple servers is so much of a problem that I stopped playing. If you have the gog version of Factorio it is very easy to install it multiple times in different locations (edit the GUI icon before installing the next version so it isn't overwritten) and mod each version differently. Ev...

Ok, I stand corrected. It's a shame we need a mod now to have a clear looking battery (unless you can improve on the gfx).

Re: Friday Facts #245 - Campaign concept

I must question the motivation behind your statement. The campaigns are supposed to be a tutorial and a new player - who doesn't yet know what to build and when to build it - doesn't have a chance In hell to survive long enough to learn the needed lessons. Under the current approach he must either ...

Re: Friday Facts #245 - Campaign concept

Since there is a rework in progress I figured I'd complete the existing campaigns before they went away. This reminded me of why I had abandoned them (the nuisance of biters and how much they interfere with initial learning and experimentation) and made me think of a solution: Why not make the camp...

I'm not sure why Microsoft manages to get fonts right, and none of the competitors can get it to work right. Does anyone here know about Linux or Apple and can tell me what the problem is? Funny thing is that technically Microsoft is the one rendering the fonts wrong . Without going into too much d...

Re: Friday Facts #246 - The GUI update (Part 3)

I haven't read all the comments (only page 1 and page 6), but I seem to be alone in not liking it. I didn't like the fat Mickey Mouse look of Windows XP, and I don't like it in the GUI mockups. I also absolutely hate the vague 'over-large' / 'under-sharp' fonts. I tried some Linux distributions in t...
