The pre-requisites are oriented towards the processing recipes that the tech unlocks. The buildings are usually placed in their corresponding tech level. Did you already fix the issue when dropping an item with a 64x64 on the ground it's also unscaled? So twice (technically 4 times) the size of the 32x32 icon item?

Some of the higher techs are not direct upgrades but rather better options in terms of waste usage. Same for the Resin chains you posted, you are not using the "waste" material from resin 3 e.g. the residuals and also not the most efficient combination there is :)

Yields work similar to fluid resources, except that it will be a probability if you get an ore output if the yield is below 100%. I have run into this issue before as well. It apparently only affects MAC user, dont know why. I'm since then trying to avoid rendering stuff in anything more than 8 bit colors.
