Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

... have no idea what. ) So in the end all this Intel-servers (I think Intel has 95% market share on servers.) run much faster with 0.18. But for my bulldozer factorio is still a extremely bad optimized game. So if it is always a race between server and clients for the games I prefer I'm standing ...

Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

The issues with the Bulldozer having 2 cores share a single pipeline ? I think the problem is more that they do not share the L3-Cache. Factorio communicates a lot with its RAM. I think on Intels a lot of this is absorbed by its L3 ...

... designed more for Windows XP... "Speeding up that dinosaur CPU" So, is this the OS poorly optimizing thread usage ? The issues with the Bulldozer having 2 cores share a single pipeline ? The combination of the above ? I'll have to try some benchmarks both on Win7 and Linux... (Hopefully ...

Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

Okay, graph time. Making graphs is way more convoluted than it should be in google docs and unfortunately I don't have access to Excel at the moment, so you're getting lovely TI-84 graphs. Boxes are Intel, plusses are AMD. Trend lines are unreliable for smaller data sets. Also to note is that multip...

Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

Sure, I was exaggerating slightly to get my point across. But here's the data (AMD CPUs marked with an asterisk): 0.18.1 400 MHz: 41 UPS 1333 MHz: 64 UPS 1600 MHz: 70 UPS 2400 MHz: 56 UPS* 2933 MHz: 101 UPS 3000 MHz: 83 UPS* 3266 MHz: 85 UPS* 0.17.79 (larger sample size) NB: I discarded identical co...

Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

That 3930K is almost certainly running four channels, and if so its memory is nearly as fast as that Ryzen rig's two channels. Which goes a long way towards explaining why its performance is nearly as good.

Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

The conclusion I draw from that is as follows: If you want to play factorio you need decent speed memory. Faster Memory makes better results. But you don't need it really: Compare these two: https://factoriobox.1au.us/result/c562237c-684d-493f-9ff2-8f67ebac3527 https://factoriobox.1au.us/result/973...

Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

The conclusion I draw from that is as follows: If you want to play factorio you need decent speed memory. One-sided conclusion. So far, the top AMD +3800 MHz memory with good timings is not lost at all by the top Intel with 2900 MHz memory. And if we talk about memory, then my database will not sta...

Here are the results for my office PC: https://factoriobox.1au.us/result/1042cc93-818f-4ca1-8d52-95d038ee07ba It has overall better hardware stats than your i5-6400 system but is much slower. So Overclocking brings you a lot. yesterday the site did not accept the results: I could upload the results ...

Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

And as a Bulldozer owner, shouldn't you be well-aware about its single-threaded shortcomings ? Yes I know. But until now it was never a problem for factorio. Like I said I could play most of the maps even on my 9 year old Laptop. ...

Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

EDIT : As a reminder, it's "Intel 3.3 Ghz to 3.69 Ghz" No, its not. The biggest Number is standing at INTEL CPU SPEEDS (OSX): 2.3 Ghz to 2.69 Ghz: 30%. But just searching for the biggest number is statistical bullshit. Even if you look only on Windows and only on Intel declaring the Categ...

When I read this, I doubt that: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=42165 ... 0.18 added a lot of optimisation so i'm not sure those older test are really still relevant and even if they were I wouldn't compare too much between two version that are that far apart more so when the la...

Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

If you want to spend lots of money, Intel will serve you well for Factorio in the high-end, but in the middle ground you'll get more bang out of your buck with an AMD CPU like the 3600 or a 2600. When I read this, I doubt that: https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=42165 Thinking abou...

Re: Performance on AMD Bulldozer

Your performance on the charitymap provided by posila is better than that of my 6 year old laptop […] more than I expected from that poor AMD A10-5745M. Should be. A 2013 low end Laptop CPU should not be faster than a high end 2014 Hich-End-Desktop-CPU. Could you join that server (it's on 0.18.2) a...
