Re: How to get a job in the games industry?

Hi Mendel, Thanks for sharing your story, perhaps more people have suggestions if you tell us what kind of company you would like to work for. If you are looking for a small one it would be very possible there is some sort of game development company in a big city near you. Maybe they don't build ga...

Re: Combinator FACTORIO sign

I have managed to achieve the exact layout of the turrets by using the console in the game. I was not able to reproduce the layout by using an older version of the game. Just downloaded the save and this can be because of the old turret size, from versions before 0.12 . Back then they where smaller...

Re: Combinator FACTORIO sign

I have a simple question in regards to the game save, how did you manage to squeeze the laser turrets in such a tight space? I can't reproduce the same layout design. Not sure since I didnt download the save, but the size of lazor turrets have changed in a patch. When you open a save with the old s...

Dunno why you would ask this in a thread from 2013 but here is a sandbox for you:

Re: Oil Refining

From looks perspective it looks good, little refinery spiders. From production perspective its not very good though. - lot of space for just looks. - If oil is in barrels, store it in barrels. Maybe just 1 storage tank. A proper chest has only 1x1 footprint and stores more oil in barrels then a stor...

Re: Chemical Processing Layout

Hold on! That's making the assumption that space is a scarce and limited resource. It costs 5 iron to store 25 oil in a barrel (5 oil/iron) whereas it costs only 55 iron to store 2500 oil in a Tank (25.45 oil/iron), as such the incorrigible cheapskate will assert you should never, ever store crude ...

Re: Using a Cargo Car as a Buffer

Your factory looks cool.. Although I prefer the sight of belts full of stuff :) But in your factory it probably feels more like every produced item has a purpose instead of just being dumped on a belt, that is awesome. Not sure if you found this already but Equalizer chests . These chests share thei...

Re: The purpose of faster transport belts

Key here is not that the belts are faster, but they allow to carry more load over the same time, because they are faster.
Its not so much about the speed that the item arrives, but you can put more items on the belt cause the items travel faster.

Re: Poll: Loader vs. Heavy-Inserter

I think the main issue is that you cannot place any more inserters at some point and then bots are the only alternative. This does not apply to storage because generally you can extend that because space is not an issue. The problem surfaces when unloading a train or an assembler you simply cannot c...

Re: i have no idea how this worked

Looking fun :) One tip for you: to make an electronic circuit you need 3 cables and 1 iron. One yellow inserter must move 4 times to insert all that, while the actual production time of the circuit is very fast. For this reason a lot of players have 1 or 2 copper cable factories insert directly into...

Re: Friday Facts #133 - The train struggle

Another option to counter the train problem is to make train station tiles, that are linked with the train stop. A train would be able to be (un)loaded in that station but it does not matter how long the train is (like in transport tycoon). This could also be a great addition to the game if you can ...

Re: Friday Facts #133 - The train struggle

Imho the example with the gap would probably look the best and work but it would be more awesome if you would actually fix the vertical positions without taking away inserters from the horizontal. I am still curious about the 'rubber example' because it takes 2 curved tracks to make a turn to vertic...

Re: Compact T1+T2 research

Stacking bonus is valid thinking, but it has limited use in this situation. Simply because you need only 1*item in these recipes. The stacking bonus becomes usefull when multiple units of the same type is being required, such as the copper wires for the circuits. Also even with this stacking bonus, ...

Re: Compact T1+T2 research

Hey Logan_72, Looking nice, compact can work in many ways: how many tiles are used, how many tiles wasted between 2 compact blocks. And what is efficient, efficient to build in terms of resource or efficient in terms of power or efficient in terms of space. Would be interesting to know how many tile...

Re: central station, unloading and waiting bays

Heya, Like it, its pretty compact i'd say, I usually sort my trains and then have long instead of wide waiting bays near the station. Because the waiting train is very close behind the train that is currently being unloaded, it takes less time to enter the station when its his turn to unload. I alwa...
