Re: [0.15.x] Bob's Mods: General Discussion

Right... so 1 boiler powers 2 engines no matter what, then (as long as you give it enough fuel).

Re: [0.15.x] Bob's Mods: General Discussion

But boilers don't have a listed energy output, though? https://i.imgur.com/01Q9wJJ.jpg But do you mean that a boiler will always supply two steam engines no matter it's efficiency? I forget the exact mathematics behind it but the 50% efficiency and 3.6mw energy consumption and the 900kw power outpu...

Re: [0.15.x] Bob's Mods: General Discussion

Quick question: Do bob's boilers in 0.15 work on the assumption that 100% efficiency = vanilla efficiency of a standard boiler? I.e. will one basic bob's boiler only power 1 steam engine due to having a 50% efficiency? base game's boiler efficiency is 50%. And no, the efficiency actually only effec...

Re: [0.12.x][v0.12.7] Bob's Ore Mod.

Well, probably. I just mean that if you make your mod put different kinds of ores on the same belt right out of the drill, it's probably good to include something like that in the mod itself. Especially if it's the default setting. You'd probably get a lot less complaints that way.

Re: [0.12.x][v0.12.7] Bob's Ore Mod.

I wouldn't mind if there was an actual realistic way of sorting ore (like filter belts or something).

Re: [0.12.x][v0.12.7] Bob's Ore Mod.

So... Unless I missed something, you have to manually filter lead output with smart inserters and void/use the nickel? If so that's a massive pain in the ass just automate lead production, which you need relatively early.

Just add a higher tech modular tank. Shields, lasers, targeting computers, etc.

Re: Looking for someone to MP with

I am playing with someone, but if I'm not busy I'm usually up for playing. I'm not going to start using big mods just yet, though, but if you still wanna play send me your steam or something.

Edit: Nevermind. He bailed so I'm not playing with 'em anymore, I guess.

Re: Nuclear power in Factorio - clean or dirty?

Interesting article on the current state of fusion: http://www.forbes.com/sites/ethansiegel/2015/08/27/how-close-are-we-to-nuclear-fusion/ I like how they compared it to current shitty fission tech. That's like saying fission is superior to fusion because fusion costs more energy to maintain than i...

Re: Nuclear power in Factorio - clean or dirty?

with any game people are going to look up and copy other people's setups. People do this virtually all the time in Factorio anyway. But some people will prefer not to do that, and make their own setup. It just depends on how they want to play, and what level of challenge they want to have. I fail t...

Re: Nuclear power in Factorio - clean or dirty?

We have fission. We do not have fusion (well, not cost-efficient one). Ergo - fusion is more advanced technology in a tech tree. Have a metaphor. Bow vs assault rifle. They both have same purpose - kill stuff. They are different technologies with advantages and drawbacks, yet we do not see assault ...

Re: Nuclear power in Factorio - clean or dirty?

Given that there were natural fission reactors on Earth and an efficient fusion reactor requires degree of sophistication we still did not achieve I fail to see how they could be considered the same tech level. There are also natural fusion reactors - stars. It is also worth noting that fusion powe...

Re: Nuclear power in Factorio - clean or dirty?

One isn't really better than the other. They're different kind of nuclear reactions. Fusion generates more power, but also costs more power. You are talking about real life. Factorio isn't real life. You can put up to 4 small fusion reactors into the armor and run around in it. Sure, they provide l...

Re: Nuclear power in Factorio - clean or dirty?

The option to use thorium fuel would be a good idea, but adding two new resource deposits just for nuclear power could be a bit much - perhaps they could both potentially be extracted from a single resource? There are minerals on earth that contain useful amounts of both thorium and uranium, so I d...

Re: Nuclear power in Factorio - clean or dirty?

I realize that, but it should have a basis in reality. It's like making solar panels somehow desirable to use during the night. It doesn't make sense. As I've said, I think you could have interesting fuel cycles without breaking suspension of disbelief to this degree (to anyone remotely knowledgeabl...

Re: Nuclear power in Factorio - clean or dirty?

nuclear weapons are weapons of extreme mass destructions. Even the smallest yeild nuclear weapons created, like, nukes the size of a watermelon, are just too powerful to be used against biter nests. They would have a lethal blast area almost as big as the entire scannable range of a radar. Is that ...

Re: Nuclear power in Factorio - clean or dirty?

Well, it also depends on the end goal. If the ultimate objective is to create a habitable planet for future generations of <whichever race the lone guy is>, nuclear weaponry may not be the best choice ;) Nukes aren't that dangerous to the environment (long term) if you don't launch 999999 of them (...
