My new game is "free play" mode.

If you mean starting a multiplayer game with an existing save file, yes. Just select the save when setting up the multiplayer game.

Is there a way to convert a single player game to multi player? If there is can you describe in detail how to do it? Can this game be played in LAN only mode without steam? (I only ask these questions because I want to play with my little brother but he is only 12 and doesn't have a steam account of...
