Re: Friday Facts #410 - Rocket turret & Target priorities
AUTOMATED FISHING?!?!!?
Automated fishing already works in 1.0. Set up a long-handled inserter on the water's edge with a box behind it, and every time a fish comes into range, it'll be grabbed and salted down in the box. Plus, you don't have to supply the salt :)
Wait, WHAT?!?! All these ...

Re: Friday Facts #410 - Rocket turret & Target priorities
With regards to laser turret idle power, isn't there already known solutions even without mods? For example, gun turrets already detect if enemy is close and will spend ammo when they activate. I feed ammo to a gun turret from a crate and I read crate contents. If crate is not full, a power switch ...

I don't usually get the chills when listening to a piece of music for the very first time. Usually it takes a few listens even for very good tracks.

Re: Friday Facts #405 - Whole belt reader, New logistics GUI
Do we have timers in the logic system?
In case you need to dispense some material in portions.
I also remember a long time ago I tried to implement a portioned release of energy from batteries via an on/off toggle switch. Without a timer it didn't work out that way.
Can't you just use an item ...

Brightness inside rocket silo seems to change between rocket lauches in weird way inside the silo, especially of the doodad below one of the red lights. I guess it is the hatch door, probably. It gets somewhat less bright just as the animation loops. I just can't unsee it now 🫣

Anyone else got hyped enough about space age that they had to dive into space exploration?
I had almost forgotten about Factorio... Not having played it for like 3 years at least by now, but then I heard about space age expansion. Well. I had 1050 hours on Factorio.
I read the friday facts again and started to get hyped.. and I thought... the **** with it. I haven't tried space ...

Re: Friday Facts #377 - New new rails
I was trying to find when the first friday facts was posted but I only initially found #2
that seems like it was october 4th 2013.
Has it been 10 years since the first one?
Surely when you post the next one, right?
edit: ah silly me, found it now, should have been obvious how to get the url

Re: Friday Facts #376 - Research and Technology
What I meant is some kind of research that would make the fields to only deplete to less yield but never dry up completely after researched, and even more research would keep the yields slightly less low still. Something like the miners would just dig deeper or something.
Maybe something ...

Re: Friday Facts #376 - Research and Technology
Maybe there could be an infinite resources tech for the end game, which would make ore fields deplete less somehow
The mining productivity research already does this. That additional ore bar that appears after first researching the productivity tech and pops out an ore each time it fills ...

Re: Friday Facts #376 - Research and Technology
The most annoying/grindy part of Factorio for me has always been the act of plopping miners to a new resource field as old ones dry out.
Besides the excelent answer from Tertius, check this possibilities:
1- At game start, adjust map settings for maximum Richness (600%) for each ore type.
2- If ...

The core of what makes Factorio good is that the horrible huge grind you would need to get all the resources can be mitigated by automation.

Small supply chain simulation code (I'm learning Java basics)
So I took a course on Java... once the course started talking about Suppliers, I immediately started thinking about supply chains and Factorio of course. So I started this little side project to see how those could be used to simulate a small part of a supply chain. I go from iron and copper ores to ...

true, it's a kind of workaround. But as mentioned before, relevant throughput issues are easably spottable. And you can drag and run an technically upgrade the whole factory at once.
Another funny thing is... I don't like to use bots. I prefer belt spaghetti. Which kind of makes my problem ...

Re: Bottom leds to belts to distinquish belt types?
Okay so I found the "make new upgrade planner" feature and found out how to use that.
But if I got it right, I still have to stop and drag a box around belts to see what is what.
I would really prefer just easily spotting individual wrong colored belts while just running through the area. It ...

Bottom leds to belts to distinquish belt types?
Ever had that problem where you fail to see the one point on a long belt where you still have the old slower type of belt and that one piece is slowing the whole belt down and you are having trouble finding it on a full belt that might be currently halted due to another issue?
I think the belt ...

How to get a job in the games industry?
Having worked 11 years in tech support, I finally burned myself out due to the job requirements changing to include (forced) sales talk during tech support calls, which is something I didn't like at all.
