I don't exactly think it's a requirement, but I do think it should be more of an alternative, something that once invested will make your life a lot easier. Gold, in real life is very conductive. It's used in advanced processors, and is the most reliable. So, lets add that to factorio. Gold will be a rare ore, but it'll only be used in later game. It Should be introduced in advanced circuits (the red ones) and used thereafter.

Small idea for world editor
Instead of having to play the world to test it, or to put things in the player's inventory, why not put a test mode on the map editor? What this will do is simply let you play the world as the player. Test how it'd work, and be able to go back to the editor by pressing T.
