So now that the thought of "optimizing for convenience and streamlining the experience doesn't make a game better" sunk in can we revert basic oil processing to output heavy, light and petroleum? ;)
This.

Re: Factorio version 0.17 - Now stable

Should've mentioned the neutering of oil in the list of significant additions/changes.
Atleast now everyone who stays on stable can chime in on that disaster.

Re: Version 0.17.60

Storage tanks. I'd just put down a bunch or so leading out from the outputs I wasn't using and when they got full I removed & replaced the tanks. Sure, I "lost" a lot of wasted oil, but it worked for me as it put off the puzzle in solving it. (And this was long before combinators too.) ... So I jus...

Re: Version 0.17.60

Arguments agains change will never change. But the gameplay effects involved here is the real issue; and there are certainly issues here! The one true "improvement" NewBOP gives is that it indeed smooths out the Green-->Blue science transition hump. But in doing so it cheapens the game experience a...

Re: Version 0.17.60

Here is my experience of 0.17.60+ ! ... For the part about blue science, it's really a wall now. ... I've had the opposite experience, almost exactly. I've been playing Warptorio so a bus is basically impossible, and I was able to - with a bit of fun work - fit blue science in the hallways that mod...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

1) You measure difficulty in cumulative percentage, which is not an accurate description of experience. It would be closer to the experience to give any moment an arbitrary difficulty value, and see its evolution over time 2) You solely focus on oil changes, and by doing so, lose the big picture. T...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

oh what a wonderful way to put that it changes your experience. I've read all comments to that effect. I'll acknowledge that figuring out multiple outputs on one building is rewarding, but it mystifies me that you guys need to preserve that particular experience so well that you'll argue for weeks ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

if for example we would put sulfur into heavy oil, it could very easily happen that your refinery would deadlock because you only want to produce batteries/acid, say for mining uranium and laser turrets. Even with AOP and proper automated cracking system, the only solution would be to store your pe...

it just kicks the can down the road That was the intent Kicking the can down the road doesn't solve the problem You must be referring to a different problem, Delaying the multiple output recipe spreads out the introduction of new concepts, We felt that the problem is too many new concepts at once, ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Even though it was not my idea, I was very significantly responsible for the changes and they would not have happened without my agreement, therefore you can fully blame me for them... and sacrifice me to the dark gods if that is what you desire. Honestly, there isn’t that much to write further. Th...

Re: Version 0.17.60

What i dislike is the way there were described as "needed for massive thing " and in a way the counterproductive way to present bots is that it gives incentive to seek for routine sort of if you aim at utilizing them at their fullest potential ( more abuse ), the blueprints system is genious don't ...

Re: Version 0.17.60

I dunno guys can we get out of some of our tunnel vision we have in proclaiming this change a total one way or the other? Can you come up with a way to make this change work for you? The fact that you 'do not have to deal' with these other products is one of the reasons many of these people don't l...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Wouldn't it be quite smart from a development standpoint to try out an alternative, more simple approch like newBOP now and .17 stable and still have the chance for UI changes (and tutorials) and if needed whatever alterations in BOP later, e.g. in .18? No, you're pushing this as if I'm supposed to...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Actually quite recently. For my .17 playthrough I've first set up an BOP Setup accumulating as much SF and lubricant as possible fore later usage. Then rushed to AOP and cracking and fine tuned it. You rushed advanced oil processing and cracking, you've missed my point. So oil is the best next cand...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

By axiomaticly assuming a new player can easily grasp it. Secondly proposing a no circuit-oil setup firstly with BOP only and no cracking (and even like you've suggested with early cracking) is likely to require high maintenance, especially if the new player has to solve it for the first time. Addi...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I didn’t get the impression (modifying blue science) from your post, the question was more of a rhetorical nature. This is more of something I posted later, and is moreseo a response dev posts on singular specific things they wished to address. I personally would have preferred some early cracking ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I‘ve red it. Setting a basic refinery is easy enough, but keeping it running not so much. Considering that just spamming fluid tanks it far from a well implemented solution and only badly automatable (considering most new players won’t use circuit conditions). SF as balancing might not be enough, s...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

This is a perfect example of something I said in a previous post, that people are initially inclined to like any change that makes things easier, simply because it's easier. The opposite is also true, people are initially inclined to dislike a change simply because they are used to the status quo. ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

I'd say this change is a welcome one: As someone pointed out earlier in the thread, with nice pictures as well(thanks whoever you were) it reduces the overwhelming amount of stuff that starts happening at the dawn of blue science: building outposts to bolster waning resources of the starting base, ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

This is quite plausible, after all no everybody wll enjoy the game. But having a (at beginning) convuluted oil on top of that, isn‘t helping the fraction of new players, who might get post Blue science. Also to change BOP is less invasive than to simplify blue science. The jump from linear to almos...
