Re: [0.17+] Randotorio

I finally realized the mod was now updated to 0.18.x and re-enabled the latest experimental branch, only to find that the mod would crash on load. Rolling back to 0.18.18, predictably, allowed it to load. It works with 0.18.19 as well. 0.18.20 is when it breaks. Those dastardly developers sabotaged ...

Re: Inserter drains the supply?!

If you hit ALT, a yellow arrow will appear over the output of your mining drills as a visual aid. (A lot of players play with ALT permanently enabled.) You can rotate mining drills, which puts the output in a different location. Aside from chests and belts, you can also feed directly into furnaces o...

Re: [0.17+] Randotorio

It's great to have you back! I don't think number 6 can produce impossible seeds (EDIT: in core - I just realized you were talking about seablock. My background is 100% vanilla, as you might have guessed), I included it because I encountered it during gameplay. I'd crafted my only stone furnace away...

Re: Remove Train Stop research, add Train Stop to first "Railway" research

You anyway will have them after like 5 minutes of research Good point! Why did you create this thread, then? Anyway, having more technologies is not a negative, you know. Each researched technology comes with a satisfying sound effect and a motivational boost for the player. It's more satisfying to...

Re: Remove Train Stop research, add Train Stop to first "Railway" research

You don't need train stops right away. You first need access to rails so you can produce them and have a train network. By the time you're done with that - even if you start right away - automated rail transportation research will be done, too. It's daunting enough for new players just to figure out...

Re: [0.17+] Randotorio

I got stuck. My chemical plant requires both sulfur and (one step deeper from advanced circuits) plastics to be built. Unless there is an alternative that I'm completely blanking on, there is only one recipe that makes sulfur, and it uses the chemical plant. Same for plastic bars. No chemical plants...

Re: Laser turrets vs Personal Laser Defense

How is this a balancing concern? Laser turrets and personal laser defense serve completely different purposes. Laser turrets vs Gun turrets vs Flamethrower turrets, that would be a balancing concern. What you have is a verisimilitude concern. Anyway, I believe the idea is that personal laser defense...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

One of the easier changes that I think could help significantly - obviously keeping the old BOP - is to disable Petroleum Gas -> Solid Fuel. It alleviates the risk of players falling into using it that way instead of finding a use for their heavy oil and light oil to keep it from backing up. A more ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

There's no question that requiring sulfur is better than requiring solid fuel made from petroleum gas. But both are worse than requiring solid fuel made from light oil. It makes blue science much worse to deal with post-AOP, since now you lack the solid fuel sink that blue science was supposed to be...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Maybe a bit of a provocative question: The players you're worried about - the ones that might get frustrated trying to solve the multi-input problem - aren't they playing on stable right now? The vast majority of them? It takes at least some savvy or independent research for players to opt into the ...

Re: Friday Facts #305 - The Oil Changes

Big sigh of relief from me - I will continue to be able to play Factorio without having to make solid fuel from petroleum gas. I'm not sure what it says about me that that was genuinely my biggest worry. I want to second Adamo's suggestions with regards to using Sulfuric Acid for the science pack, a...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

But, you seem to have missed the point in my post. The quantity of new concepts is the problem, not the quality. Changing how easy it is to learn the concept changes only quality, not quantity - so it doesn't solve the problem. Well, see, that is my problem, too. I'm worried about the new concepts ...

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

As a player who learned to play somewhat recently (I still haven't touched circuit networks), there are two concerns I have about the chance to basic oil processing. 1) I hate the thought of having to turn any amount of petroleum gas into solid fuel in future playthroughs. Light oil is what you use ...
