I actually did not know it takes only half coal and therefore creates only half pollution, which is quite handy early game :).

For me -> when I play on "default" settings, usually when I take some ore area, I instantly create full output mining drill and furnances. So when steel ...

Just fun fact :).
I found message I wrote to kovarex in 2013, which resembles Space platform quite a bit (not in space though, but the platform part works in quite similar way) :).

Its in czech language, but AI can translate it for you.

I have never used it before and its fine, all of us has different way to play.

However now I started 100x science run (which is amazing by the way, highly recommended if you already finished factorio once or more times).

About saving time - could you just create image of what-you-want-to-save in memory first and then continue the game? Then compressing it and saving to disk in background without affecting gameplay?

In early game, I rush for laser turrets and use them offensively (the small electric pole is cheap),
later on I use shields and destroy capsules (and combat shotgun)

It would be simple, you start near borders (that borders should be only on one side, so the map is still infinite) and you can send or recieve items throuth that border :).

What about turn down customability a bit for more balance control?

Level 2 factory can have 1/1/1 slots and level 3 factory 2/2/2, in each group you can add modules of different groups (so the best factory can have 2 productivity, 2 speed, 2effectivity modules).
