Re: convert every constant signal in the network to pulse

Trying to translate your requirement to more technical terms. You want to output the signal for one tick only, if it has changed from the previous state? Then you need to delay the input for one tick (i.e.with an arithmic combinator set to any +0), substract that delayed value from the original sign...

Rename "chain signal" to "look ahead signal"

What ? As the title says, I'd suggest to rename the "chain signal" to "look ahead signal". Why ? Many (inexperienced) players are struggling to grasp the concept behind chain signals and need to consult tutorials to get it. To aid players in figuring it out easier and ideally on their own, I think ...

Re: Friday Facts #269 - Roadmap update & Transport belt perspective

Regarding the roadmap, why would that be "probably not something you wanted to hear"? Sure I'm exicited about new features and cant wait to get them, but I'm in no rush either. I've been playing this game now since April 2015 (0.11). It's still fun and I don't foresee that changing, as it is getting...

Re: AWay to totally lock a track path.

Thanks to Optera mentioning the mod Pathological . As I see it, the relevant parameters for this case are A segment ending in a circuit-closed signal is lengthened by adding Signal Reserved By Circuit Network Penalty (1000) vs. A segment in a currently-occupied block is lengthened by adding (2*lengt...

Re: AWay to totally lock a track path.

it would help to simply have control over penalty values a regular signal could show The specific penalties can now be found in the utility constants, which allows mods to change them. (Undocumented) So this says, that it is possible to alter the penalties. Maybe you can mod values, that suit you? ...

Re: AWay to totally lock a track path.

The route from the entry chain signal through the lowest lane to the exit of the stacker (destination somewhere down the line) has 4 red signals. The routes through the two topmost lanes only have two red signals (one set by circuit condition). Looking at it like this, it makes sense for the pathfin...

Re: Diagonal selection box

Yes that would be a cool little feature. However I would prefer the rotated selection box to still be of rectangular shape (rotated 45°), instead of the parallelogram you drew. Because with the parallelogram you do not only have the choice between left slanting or right slanting diagonals but also t...

Re: AWay to totally lock a track path.

If I understand you intention correctly, than it could be solved with the chain signal. As the chain signal only lets a train through, if it can enter a following block with a regular block signal in front of it, it is not only perfect for preventing a train stopping in an unfortunate position, such...

A splitter already can split lanes (provided that there are different materials on the lanes) by setting it's filter.

Re: Game to play without mouse.

I found factorio to be quiet playable with a touchpad, by mapping the right mouse button to the space bar, with left mouse button being the same as a finger tap on the touchpad. Shooting needs to be remapped to something like "C"or "V", so you can reach it with your thump while running and aiming. N...

Re: Slightly change wait 0 seconds logic

I kind of expected wait time zero to have the effect, that the train-stop acts like a waypoint, so that the doesn't come to a full halt at all, but drives right through it. So kind of the exact oppisite of what you are suggesting. And also a not so slight change to the current behavior.

Re: Is "Lazy Bastard" appropriate?

Yes, that, exactly. If people understand the term exactly as it is meant, then it's the appropriate term. If parts of the term do not contribute to the correct understanding, then they are inappropriate. As a rule of thumb, don't use insults if you achive nothing by it (it cheapens the insult). Cens...

Re: Wiring overhaul

I like the idea and want to add wires on the ground. Directly wiring every electric entity with a hanging wire to the top of the pole will probably lead to tent like structures obscuring the view and visibly conflicting with the movement of inserters. Wires from poles to consumers should lay on the ...

Re: An itsy-bitsy question no-how related to factorio

"Messrs" is most probably borrowed from French "Mesdames et Messieurs!" (when addressing a crowd), which translated to "Ladies and Gentlemen!".

But since "Messer" is German for "knife" and "Gabel" means "fork", I like this counterpart the best :D .

Re: Add a slider to increase research and build times

If I could think of some solution without locking the settings to a particular scale (linear, super linear, exponential)... That's what I thought I suggested with the parametric exponent, though granted, my calculations were off. To make it simple for the user, I'd suggest two sliders for the facto...

Re: Add a slider to increase research and build times

With different linear scalings for the different tiers, there will be pretty high steps between the tiers. I think a smooth scaling would be preferable.
