Hmmm I'm getting a crash when attempting to add this into an existing game that already had beltboxes added. This seems like the relevant part of the logs? Is this just not supported? I'm saying that there are no more applicable recipes. A pipe is made of an iron plate. The mods add no handcraftable recipes for iron plates. So there is no chain. The inventory menu must do things differently, since it doesn't take 10 seconds to open, which it would if I ran get_craftable_count on ...

I actually started getting the same issue when I upgraded to 0.17.40 with a mod, where I have the UI for the mod bound to open/close on Tab. It opens on tab, but doesn't close when I hit it again, like it did on 0.17.39.

Downgrading to 0.17.39 worked for me.
