While in the research screen, using the mousewheel to scroll up and down inside the red boxes will move the scrollbars as expected. If you scroll outside of these areas, the world view behind the research screen will be zoomed in and out instead.

As a couple people have said, marketing is it's own job and you definitely want someone with experience to do that job.
