Re: Version 0.17.75

I think the next obvious target for bulk building is belts: they are 1x1 and usually laid down in bulk. But a special case for belts may not be worth it. yeah, there is an implicit knowledge of a neighbor in a "curved" belt as well. The optimal though would be to have ghosts be aware of n...

Re: Friday Facts #318 - New Tooltips

I would think that Belts would be simple since each one on the ground usually (in my experience) points to and from another belt... the exceptions being the beginning/end of the belt line, and tunnels/splitters. These belts also are generally speaking the same type of belt (unless you are combining ...

Re: Friday Facts #312 - Fluid mixing saga & Landfill terrain

How about making grass spread to dirt after some random time? Like in Minecraft, every tick there is a small chance that one tile of grass would make a neighbor tile of dirt full of grass. In theory I like that... But I think that it would be a bit of processing waste for an recapture of manmade to...

Deploy is already running so I didn't put it to the changelog, but it's fixed for 0.17.68

Thank you Loewchen for splitting the topic.
Just out of curiosity what was it?

Re: Version 0.17.67

I kinda wonder if (and am kinda amused by the prospect) that we might be having a beat frequency issue here... Like what happens when watching a ceiling fan in a strobe light, or more amusingly the videos of helicopters taking off where the camera frame rate harmonizes with the propeller frequency,...

Re: Friday Facts #310 - Glowing Heat pipes

some people cant just be happy with the glowing pipes they need more immersion into the colors and brightness, but i think it looks great, so keep up the good work! don't worry, I give it a month before there is a mod allowing complete rbg control over the heat pipe glow color... ...controllable vi...

Re: Friday Facts #310 - Glowing Heat pipes

Am I the only one that thinks that since the pipes are glowing red hot, that maybe they should cause a small bit of damage to the player if they are walked on? And they can SET TREES ON FIRE! I can see it now Trees near fully heated pipe have chance to ignite, Nuclear power is no longer pollution f...

Re: Friday Facts #310 - Glowing Heat pipes

but, then you would get people using heat pipes as part of their defense. ohhhh.. that sounds insanely cool! but we'd need some kind of environmental cooling to balance it. with scripts this is not really possible, it would eat way too many ups. The balancing I can think of off the top of my head w...

Re: Friday Facts #310 - Glowing Heat pipes

Not to bee picky, but shouldn't the pipe on a unpowerd reactor also not glow... Otherwise looking very much forward to this change! The reactor may be unpowered but the attached pipes still have heat. That or the reactor still has heat to dissipate just not generating more at the moment. either way...

Re: Friday Facts #309 - Controversial opinions

Quote developer (shamelessly copied from AndrewIRL's post, not sure who from Wube exactly said this): "It's our job as developers to incentivise the player to play the game properly.". If you don't agree with this, fine. Then we would need to go back to fundamental game design to argue th...

Re: Friday Facts #309 - Controversial opinions

The detrimental habit is when someone new to the game starts to use designs from the internet before even having thoughts of his own about a solution. It is not about players who already built a solution and now try to optimize it. That is my point, and that is also why I think achievements are too...

Re: Friday Facts #309 - Controversial opinions

The Game start option of allowing or blocking importing bp's would probably be the best way to implement this as opposed to moving the code off into an "Official" mod. IF (and I stress IF) they did that, what about having certain achievements be locked behind the no import config. Would m...

Re: Friday Facts #309 - Controversial opinions

A lot of the ideas presented in the FFF completely change the game. They may seem simple up front, but simple ideas have a way of avalanching down the iterative pipeline. There are even more crazy and fun ideas to explore, but I think there needs to be a new platform to see how they end up playing ...

what about having certain achievements be locked behind the no import config. Controversion Opinion of my own: Get rid of "achievements" again. All they do is cause people to whine when they're disabled due to mods/commands/editor/cosmic rays. Ofc they also whine when certain achievements...

Re: Friday Facts #309 - Controversial opinions

I'm not sure about combat. That would be a huge change to the game to get anything good and 1.0 is supposed to be round around the corner. I would really like to see the possibility of peaceful interactions though. Not just aliens but between any force. There should be buildings where you can excha...

Re: Friday Facts #309 - Controversial opinions

Factorio has a lot of potential for a combat game, but it isn't one. Combat is an optional pressure in the game, and I think it should stay that way. That being said. I would gladly welcome more options when it comes to the combat. "Smarter" aliens would require smarter defenses. There als...

Re: Friday Facts #309 - Controversial opinions

Re Biters should be more aggressive, and probe your defenses: What if biter corpses created a soft-path block? Kind of like walls, biters would attempt to path around them. This would spread biter attacks out and make them attempt to attack different areas and would accomplish this with a very simp...
