I did some Factorio over the weekend. Reached the point of Construction bot delay, where I had to do blue science first, so I could then rush advanced oil, to get construction bots.

I realized just how… bad , dumb , pointless , whatever the new blue science recipe is. I used to be against the oil ...

No one here has talked about the logistical cost saved when you have a PG-only refinery. So what if it produces 10 less? Now I don't have to deal with the 60 non-PG oils, its storing, conversion, transport, and powering all of that play the game to do so. You guys that don't see the other side of ...

I think the progression is less linear now, before it was essentially mandatory to sprint for advanced oil processing,
Now the player is free to keep the basic production running, while they explore the other technologies and features on offer.


I don't want to pile on to the "Devs don't know ...

As much as I like the idea of early ground based bots, I shudder to think of the pathfinding calculations that would result.

2) Make con bots not need lubricant somehow
3) Make Petroleum=>Solid Fuel far more efficient (I hate to suggest this, as it pretty much makes light oil worthless, but I dislike not having Heavy/Light oil to turn into fuel more so I think it'd go good with the .17.60 changes)

My Normal progression, before 0.17.60 "fixed" oil was:

Build Oil
Put Construction Bots online ( batteries, frames, lubricant, et al.)

I have devised a new Oil method that is better than all the rest, except for the ones it's not better than.

Change the Refinery to only 1 output, get rid of all the multiple output stuff.

Change the name of "Basic Oil Processing" to "Initial Oil Processing".

Change the recipe to:

I had to set up Blue Science by hand because I had no construction bots, because some new player somewhere who doesn't have the game yet would have had trouble with oil.

I hated it.
