Re: Friday Facts #284 - 0.17 experimental

On the subject of pollution on the map: I think it’s worth pointing out that it’s invisible on the minimap. But I would love to be able to have the option to see it there. I have a sneaky hunch that if this new campaign had been delayed a couple weeks until the old playerbase had adapted to the v.16...

Re: Friday Facts #284 - 0.17 experimental

It seems to me that the actual problem here is veteran players knowing about pollution, but thinking it doesn't matter for absolutely no reason , and needing someone to tell them explicitly "oh by the way pollution still matters." The sound of the hammer hitting the nail on the head. I ha...

Re: [0.17.1] intro too hard

But on the other hand it revised my threat categorization from Zelda’s Navi to Halo’s Monitor. It’s not my friend who will abandon me long after proving itself a nuisance. It’s a hostile NPC pretending to be my friend. I was halfway expecting to find out that Compy crashed the ship on purpose becau...

The Hamster, The Wheel, And Creativity

Grab a cup of tea and kick your feet up. :) I despise tutorials. It’s far and beyond my least favorite way to learn things. There’s nothing quite as uninspired as being tossed into a hamster wheel with only two ways out: obey or get off the wheel. So, I loaded it up, saw “use ESDF to walk” acknowled...

Or maybe we're all ignoring the real tutorial. When's the last time any of us has clicked on that grad hat button? How useful is it? Is there room for improvement? Did you forget about it? ;)

Training over steam is an absolutely fascinating idea! I really want to try this now :D

Re: Friday Facts #284 - 0.17 experimental

If it explained the pollution, I would have no problem whatsoever with the ending. After all, especially with the new biter spawning fix, it is quite clear that pollution is the source of biter-based problems, and getting maximum functionality out of minimal pollution is the way to go. But this is ...

Re: Friday Facts #284 - 0.17 experimental

I confess, I’m a bit baffled at how increasing difficulty to a point where you still have a chance to lose when you’re doing well is considered a punishment. Isn’t that a reward? All these horror reports inspired me to check it out in hopes of getting gloriously overrun. If I’m losing, I take it as ...

Re: [0.17.1] The three undestructable non-recipe-changeable differently-feeded buildings in new tutorial might be confus

One of the first things I did on starting up the new campaign was try to interact with every single object that could be interacted with. Loaders, broken machines, scrap, trees, the furnaces and chest i crafted, and the huge rocks on the north cliff (one of them can be mined; the others are too far ...

Re: [0.17.1] intro too hard

Hm… The only thing that left me upset was that the Compilatron bulldozed my burner drill and furnace to set up his mining belt demonstration. On one hand, I was pleased that the items stowed away in the quest chest weren’t lost to the void of NPC fetch questing, but rather, put to good use. But on t...

Re: [0.17.1] intro too hard

If you've only ever used a game controller or a touch screen? Yeah. And that's not so uncommon these days. But I hesitate to suggest that Factorio should be anyone's first PC game, or that Wube need to cater for this possibility. Oh. That does put things into perspective. Now that I think about it,...

Re: [0.17.1] intro too hard

Just reading through all these remarks about what a “new player” would theoretically experience is honestly puzzling me. Mostly the remarks on the controls. Does it really take that long to learn the basic controls? Honest, sincere question. I’m probably an oddball, but the first things I do wheneve...

Re: .17 opinions?

Haha, different folks, different tastes. I’m exceedingly pleased at being able to dodge worm projectiles so far. It’s made clearing out spawners interesting enough for me to try out a death world. Whereas, in the previous version, I’d either turn the bugs off entirely or stick to railworlds, not bec...

Re: heavy oil production problem - overflow tanks ARE NOT full

Hello! I think I recognize this problem, since I ran into something similar in my last factory. Since you mentioned crude oil -and- water flow, I recall that all of my refineries were set to advanced processing, which makes barely any heavy oil. Reverting refineries or building a couple new ones to ...
