Re: Why big output buffer in Furnaces?

it's very noticeable when you first make steel because at first you just want some steel, but you are committing to consuming 500 extra iron plates per furnace, which for a small basic setup with say 18 furnaces is 9000 iron. that's 9000 iron worth of steel that will basically just sit there forever...

Re: Suggestion: Show Power Ranges When Placing Chests

- The game value is super low because it removes a kind of mini-puzzling sub-game. if you mean people would be unhappy because they want to be confused by this, I think I'd disagree (or at least be surprised), but I would understand that as a valid reason. - because the added layer will not make an...

Re: Suggestion: Show Power Ranges When Placing Chests

That sentence explains the rest of your argumentation. no it doesn't. this does though: the core problem is that the power ranges are relevant even to unpowered items, since the placement of unpowered items is associated with the placement of powered items. essentially, information that is present ...

Re: Suggestion: Show Power Ranges When Placing Chests

As you said: the main reason why power is important is the inserter. If you place the inserter before placing the chest, the problem would be essentially gone. makes no sense that I should have to remember to do that; it's a workaround at best. also, if you place a powered inserter first, then the ...

Re: Suggestion: Show Power Ranges When Placing Chests

How about a hotkey to show supply ranges? The core problem is: the power ranges are relevant to the placement of a chest, but are inaccessible unless specifically placing a powered item. and other things like belts, too. I just placed a line of belts going to a train, but I couldn't see the power ra...

Suggestion: Show Power Ranges When Placing Chests

TL;DR Show the blue power availability "radii" when placing chests. I guess it is normally only shown for objects that require power. What ? Almost all of the time, you need to place an inserter in order to fill a chest (I think the only exception is receiver chests?). Inserters require e...

Re: Friday Facts #331 - 0.18.0 release & Train pathfinder changes

I find it not appropriate to describe Dominik's departure in the way you did it. How else should we handle it? I want to be as transparent and honest with you as I can be. You very much implied that the decision to release without the character gui is the main reason why he left. This could be reph...

I guess if we moved sulfur to be made from HO, though, it makes slightly more sense than making it out of PG.
Don't you know, this is a perfectly balanced equation :D :

Re: Friday Facts #304 - Small bugs; Big changes

Definitely don't like the oil change. Setting up oil is I think my favorite part of every playthrough. It's by far the funnest thing to set up. I've heard this game described as "diesel punk", and it makes sense. Working with oil is one of the best parts of the game. I wish for an even mor...

Re: [0.17.37] Invisible Entities When Zoomed Out

I don't have time right now, but I can confirm that the problem does go away if I switch to the monitor on the Intel HD Graphics, and then restart the game. If I switch back to an Nvidia monitor, and restart the game, the problem is back.

[SOLVED][0.17.37] Invisible Entities When Zoomed Out

This affects all of my saves. This is the first time I've ever had even the tiniest bug, and it happened immediately upon trying 0.17.37. Zooming out past 100% (well I assume it's 100%) immediately makes a lot of things invisible. Particularly belts, but also grass, and some other things. Gun Turret...

Re: Friday Facts #266 - Cleanup of mechanics

Asm 3 is superior to 1/2 in every aspect except production cost. right k, I guess I was assuming that there was an advantage to using grey instead of yellow. it seems that currently blue is the least energy efficient and yellow the most. not sure how I'd fine tune that. there is still a cost/benefi...

Re: Friday Facts #266 - Cleanup of mechanics

Factorio is a hybrid puzzle/power fantasy game. The puzzle lies in the math, limitations of various things like AM ingredient limits, and the reward for creating and solving puzzles of your own within the tools and limitations supplied by the game (like an in-game video decoder). The power fantasy ...

Re: Friday Facts #266 - Cleanup of mechanics

I liked everything up till the assembling machine slots. This will lose the feeling of the three machines being of vastly different tiers. It might be ok, I guess, if you were considering having earlier recipes that used 3 or 4 ingredients. And maybe if you had other ideas for how to maintain such a...
