Changelog tutorial

TL;DR Teach modders to write changelogs in such a way that they make best use of Factorio's capabilities. Why? There are lots of mods around, and most of them have changelogs. It is good to have changelogs (you want to know before updating whether an update may break something) -- it is even better...

Re: Miners that are direct-mining into trains don't go inactive when there is no train present

"Lower UPS when coming closer" sounds like a radically different (graphics, not game-logic related) issue than the one in the OP ? (It hopefully got/will get better for you with 0.17 ?) Well, I first noticed such delays when I installed Texugo Wind Generator and built a wind park with 160...

Re: Keybinding issues

So, because of using scancodes, remapping keys in your OS doesn't have any effect on the game. This is intended. Please, please reconsider this, even if only on Linux. All of the listed "issues to solve" at the bottom of the post by @posila would be fixed by letting the user's OS-level ke...

Re: [0.17.0/1/2] ALT view icon disappearance

The furnace only shows the icon while it's smelting the ores […] Not sure if this is related, but I have a number of furnaces with a full output (100 copper plates). Some show the ALT-icon, others not. However, the furnaces have been inactive for quite some time now due to lack of consumption -- it...

Re: Behemoth worms don't seem to differ from Big worms

Their range and damage is significantly higher. They could get more health just to make it clearly different I guess. They should get more health and resistances -- after all, there must be an obvious reason they are called "Behemoth". :-) Also, consider the stats of biters and spitters (...

Similar: New game; iron, copper, and stone smelting set up so far; red and green science produced in a very messy temporary setup; "massive" production of piercing ammo. Everything is walled in and defended by turrets after I managed to not notice some critters eating up stuff -- since the...

Behemoth worms don't seem to differ from Big worms

Using the boat from the cargo ships mod, I've seen some behemoth and big worms from a safe distance while exploring the map. However, it looked like they have the same stats: both have 750 health points, and the resistances are identical as well. I guess you just inserted new graphics for the behemo...

Re: [0.17.2] Toolbelt research

It increases the available inventory space (as the previous one did, as quickbar was inventory space) Thanks for the quick reply! For me, it used to be just "the quickbar" until I found the "toolbelt" metaphor in the research tree. After that, I thought of the main inventory as ...

[0.17.2] Toolbelt research

I know we're already on 0.17.4, so perhaps this isn't an issue any longer, but as the in-game updater isn't working yet and I don't want to download the complete game again, I'll ask this anyway: Why is the tool belt research still in the game? Now that the old tool belt has been replaced by the new...

Re: Confirm button

Not everything should be "confirm" (Confirm should be when you change something, so you can confirm your changes). In this case should be back (And in some other windows) "Confirm" is not the right word in this case -- but "Back" is even worse. IMHO, a GUI should be co...

Thanks, I'll take a look at the blueprint as soon as I can! Yesterday, I got new hardware for the computer Factorio runs on and I'm still restoring the system.

Re: Friday Facts #280 - Visual Feedback is the king

Alas, there is the problem that signals don't flow one way over red/green wires. In fluid networks, you can dictate the direction of fluid flow by inserting pumps. The equivalent of a one way pump on the circuit network is a arithmetic combiner with the condition: Each + 0 = Each Connect all of you...

Re: Friday Facts #280 - Visual Feedback is the king

Pi-C, how many exit signals (located on mainline/branch after the switch) is one routing station controlling? I've seen some designs with many (up to extreme 20) red signals in a row to *really* discourage the train from choosing that path. One. I could try to use more signals in a row, I guess. (A...

Re: Friday Facts #280 - Visual Feedback is the king

[stations all have the same name, all differences happen because of layout] I think you could get that with what's described for 0.17 by putting a no-condition "Exit" entry immediately after each (or rather the only) ordinary station in your schedules and a train stop named "Exit&quo...

Re: Friday Facts #280 - Visual Feedback is the king

Reading the FFF for the first time, I was really pleased with the news. I like the GUI changes for trains, especially that for the waiting conditions. Some people complained that the new design would still not be quite easy to grasp, and putting OR on a separate line would make things more obvious. ...

Re: Friday Facts #280 - Visual Feedback is the king

For some reason I'm encountering increasing lag when reading the FFF. Scrolling is like PPT and the Firefox almost froze on some circumstance. I figured out it's that ten gif-like-but-actually-video playing in the background that has caused the lag. Anyone else with this issue? Same here! I opened ...
