So uhm, i've been away for a while...
But i've been playing a lot of Factorio.
And i am sitting here, playing the full suite of Pyanodon, rolling along in a train with 15 wagons on it thinking it really should be moving slower than this. It's heavy!
And so i remember i've also played a lot of OTTD ...

Re: Stations & other LTN based designs
When I suggested 7 inserters instead of 6 I assumed some merging chests or warehouse so "double use" wouldn't be an issue. On the other hand with requester chests the fill rate it determined by the number of bots on the way to each chest. Double the requested amount and a chest gets twice the ...

Re: Stations & other LTN based designs
HOLY QUACK!
I have to give props to mrvn for tempting me to explain why adding three rows doesn't do much. It lead me to figure out the throughput of diagonal trick inserters. My mind wandered to the idea of using the diagonal trick to load a wagon and this is what i came up with:

Re: Stations & other LTN based designs
This looks totally mad.
Well thanks i guess?
I can't accept anything where I have to adjust 31 combinators after blueprinting to match the 31 goods to ship at the station. The problem there is that there simply is no good way to select just one signal from many with combinators. Eliminating that ...

Re: Stations & other LTN based designs
Thanks for the feedback!
I don't want one station per cargo as that would take up way more space. The (old)design can handle 31 different cargoes (though i would expect it to handle 6 or so without completely bogging down) which would take up at least 10 spaces wide per platform whereas the old ...

Re: Stations & other LTN based designs
I've been doodling a bit with a "perfect" provider that would NEVER overfill a cargo wagon and thus eliminate the "stuck inserter" issue once and for all.
Before you go "uuhh locked slots per wagon" there's a number of problems with that.
1. I am using bob's inserters and i am "cheating" with them ...

Re: Friday Facts #320 - Color correction
If your monitor is so far off from the baseline standard that the changes they made look cartoony or overly bright compared to the old, that's not their fault.
And there you go again, blaming the hardware for something that most definitely is a matter of personal taste.
I've looked at the ...

Re: Friday Facts #320 - Color correction
I think you misunderstand what the importance behind a color calibrated monitor is.
*Words words words*
And i think you overestimate the average humans interest in caring for all that which you said about color calibration.
Furthermore, i did say average here. Meaning Wube should strive for the ...

Re: Friday Facts #320 - Color correction
Maybe they should just re-work the sprites so there a "hue/saturation/brightness" mask put over them and then let users define what they think look best.
If i want grayscale for some reason i could then just turn down saturation all the way.
Or, if i like my eyes bleeding i could pull saturation to ...

Re: Friday Facts #320 - Color correction
I am NOT a fan of this change.
1) It's gotten TOO bright overall. Some things could do with some brightness but not everything.
2) Saturation and colors should be reserved for vibrant stuff. Most stuff in the world isn't supposed to be vibrant. Not everything is trying to get your attention, not ...

Re: QoL: Set filters in wagons with holding item and dragging
Even a small button saying "set filters to currently occupied" would be swell to be honest, until the GUI can handle such "advanced" operations.

Remind me again, what's the point in oil sand?
Because currently, anything you get from oil sand you can get from other sources at less cost in both space and energy usage.
In fact, trying to convert oil sand into power generation is a net loss at the moment. Where i think for every MW spent, you ...

5 fuel oil gives 50% more for a minimal processing so unless desperate don't burn crude directly
Huh? Am i missing something here?
Using just crude and fuel oil in the calcs... I.E, not other processing.
Crude -> Combustion mix 1:1 ratio at 50% temperature = 0.5
Crude -> Fuel Oil 2:1 ratio ...

Re: Friday Facts #312 - Fluid mixing saga & Landfill terrain
Ever since the "no fluid mixing" thing entered the scene i've been a sad panda. I used to do multi use factories before the change where i could turn on a certain setup if i wanted more of a certain less frequently used fluid that was only used every once in a blue moon.
This is no longer possible ...

Just for the record, I hate the idea of letting reactors explode, too, and I hate it precisely because I am trained in physics. If anything, a reactor overload should damage your machines within a certain vicinity (as it would fry the circuitry with primary and secondary electromagnetic energy ...
