Looks like you're useing wayland. Factorio (currently) doesn't support pure wayland, you'll need to get Xwayland setup, or switch to an X based WM/DE.
Hopefully wube will support wayland soon.

For the solar panels the correct message is 'doesn't connect to wire' and for connectables, 'wire can't reach' or similar.
