Whoops, thanks for finding that!

If you have 2 armors with equipment grids, we'll call them Armor 1 and 2. If you open (right-click) armor 1's inventory, then armor 2, then armor 1's, then press 'e' to close the menu, it will have a queue of armors open, rather than only the most recently-opened armor grid.
