Ok.
So what I had to do was do the control-click settings method INGAME, goto "the rest", scroll to "audio backend" set it to "allegro".
Changing it in the config file then saving/relaunching didn't "stick".
Thanks. I missed the control-alt settings option on the first readover.

Sound stopped working (after 5+ years)
"Couldn't initialise Audio. Audio is disabled"
Been playing fine for 5+ years on the same PC. Three days ago, the sound stopped working. I googled this as well as I could, and have tried everything from fresh reinstall to chasing down "WASAPI can't initialise" bugs via stackoverflow .

How to get FactorioExtended 0.3.1 full suite playing nice with Factorio 0.16.16 (As at 15 Jan 2018).
1. Inside FactorioExtended-Transport_0.3.1
goto \graphics\entity\pipe-to-ground
Copy hr-pipe-to-ground-* (4 items) to a folder.
Rename them to not have hr-* so they end up as pipe-to-ground ...
