Thanks! I came to post the same issue, so nice to see the solution already there. It already took away some of the surprise in Space Age for me, but no more!

TL;DR
The item currently known as "steel plate" is depicted as a beam, not a plate, and the name should reflect that.

What ?
"Steel plate" -> "Steel beam"

Alternatively, the steel plate graphics should be updated to depict a plate.

Try a google image search for steel plate. The result ...

What ?
It's currently possible to have aliens be in "peaceful mode". I suspect this was added because 1) people want to play without aliens, but 2) you needed aliens to get alien resources:
