I would like to see a pacification agent added to the game. The mechanic would take power to maintain, and would act a a sort of counter-pollution, pacifying the biters instead of angering them.

It would make trams possible 
Plus, the same could be said about stackable-bonus robotic legs, which are far more powerful as they make you faster in every direction with no world infrastructure.

I think biters will spot a turret or the player, and then only attack other structures if they get in the way of the pathfinding.
I havent tested it, but i think it would be possible to just build an open but convoluted path for the biters to go ...

Just wanted to suggest cobblestone and stone brick path tiles. They would be used as pavement, giving the player bonuses to speed.
There could also be a tier 3 path that required iron plates and lubricant, and acted as an non-interruptible but very fast lane ...
