Re: [0/17.x] Fluids, how do they even work?

Well then, thank you for clearing that up. Been a while since I've done Factorio, wanted to try out the new systems, and kept getting conflicting information about what was, or was not, actually implemented.

Thanks for clearing that up!

Re: [0/17.x] Fluids, how do they even work?

The Wiki Page concerning the fluid system is still referencing the 0.15/0.16 system, and is no longer accurate. The additionally linked 'see also' articles also refer to the previous rather than the current system. In essence, the whole page needs to be (eventually) redone. This is not intended to ...

[0/17.x] Fluids, how do they even work?

Before I begin, I should probably start with where I've already tried to find the answers to my questions. The Wiki Page concerning the fluid system is still referencing the 0.15/0.16 system, and is no longer accurate. The additionally linked 'see also' articles also refer to the previous rather tha...

Re: Oil Production

How are productivity modules even remotely worth it? I mean, if it reduce speed by 20%, but only increases productivity by 4%, that doesn't seem even remotely like a good tradeoff, power consumption notwithstanding. Have I missed something here? You can made more refineries, but not yields. With mo...

Re: Oil Production

Well it's easier to pump a single pipe of Crude Oil than it is to pump the three products, though Heavy Oil only really gets turned into Lubricant and Light Oil into Solid Fuel for the Rocket. As long as you keep fluid in the tanks, fluid mechanics aren't really anything to worry too much about. I'...

Re: Oil Production

On the topic of oil production, I'd like to ask some questions concerning ratios and throughput. Specifically, how does one efficiently pump crude to a refinery, is it better to refine close to your oil, or pump oil long distances to be cracked where it is being used? I've read a few things on the w...

Re: Friday Facts #107 - The Wedding

My sincere congratulations of upgrading to the multiplayer version of Life. Be careful when running the de-stress test during the honymoon module, it has a byproduct that can be a real resource sink.

Boiler fueling from 'dead' oil rigs?

As we all know, oil will eventually end up having a productivity of 0.1. Which is greater than zero, but not by much. However, I had an idea about using that 0.1 to turn the light and heavy oil into solid fuel (gas is just too valuable to not convert, plus the ratio sucks). So the question is... how...

Re: Friday Facts #86 - Trees

My two cents: Cement/Concrete is probably a good idea and easily implementable without any new resources. We already have 'stone'. It hasn't been identified what kind of 'stone' it is, just that it is stone. So, let's use Stone as the base for your mix. Next we need to heat it up to extreme temperat...

Re: A big Step in the evolution of Factorio

I actually love the kind of "beginner" let's play series. I mean seeing people who know the game by heart after 100s or 1000s hours of gameplay with every possible mod bombination type won't help the newcommer learn the basics. I like the fact that the people who watch them will tend to l...

Re: A big Step in the evolution of Factorio

DW20 has even more viewers than Pigderp... er.... Zisteau. And Soaryn has his own following separate from that. Sure, there's some crossover watchers, but there's also a lot that aren't. This is pretty huge, because it also showcases the multiplayer capability of Factorio to a HUGE audience. Really,...

Re: [MOD 0.11.8] 5dim's mod

Tell please what will be included in this modpack? Will you use polular big mods like dytech, treefarm, f-mod, bob mods, youki industries and another? I think there is a misunderstanding. This is not a mod pack. This is a mod with modules. They are creating this mod from scratch, not compiling othe...

Re: A question on oil setup.

My setup is fairly noobish, but it seems to work fairly efficiently: Typically, my petroleum processing is geographically close to my boilers because they both require water and generally draw from the same lake. Also there's probably a coal belt in the vicinity that has been feeding said boilers so...

Wiki link on home page

I think it would be a good idea to have a link to the wiki page on the home page of Factorio. Currently, to get to the wiki, you need to go to the forums, find the correct forum, find the sticky, and click on the link. As anyone familiar with customer behavior patterns will tell you, this will put o...

Re: What's you first blue science tech?

Just got to blue pack tech on my very first actual game. And yep, advanced petroleum. It's just... necessary. Otherwise you end up with tubs of heavy and light oil with not much to do with it. After all, how much lubrication does one person need? With advanced petroleum, I can crack the heavy down t...

Re: Why having everything on a belt is a bad idea

But yes, if you have high throughput in mind, the central bus is not a very good idea. But thats the thing, it is a good idea, you just don't put every single item onto a belt and run it through the factory. Central Bus Design Concept - Youtube Here is a video I recorded last night of building a ce...

Re: Zisteau has picked up factorio

He just uploaded his his "Main Bus" video. That system he has created will most defiantly surpass "run of the mill" by all means except efficiency. His idea has already been done Admittedly, the above isn't as pretty but nothing Z has done yet breaks the mould. We live with bait...

Re: [0.10.3] RoadWorks 1.06 + Soundless version

As an idea for keeping cars on the road: Curbs. Instead of causing collision, when a car gets too close to a curb, it pushes the car back one square and allows it to continue with its momentum. Give it a one square radius to operate in, and you have a fairly good way to keep youself on the road. It ...
