Re: Attacking biters with turrets makes all weapons pointless

Or you could just like make a belt, put ammo on the belt and feed guns with the ammo on the belt. Do a buffered belt with a lane of fuel and one of ammo and use burner inserters to feed from the buffer onto the belt and from the belt into the turrets. such a system keeps on working during blackouts...

Also inserters generally are faster if they have to open a box first before picking or putting an item. 8-)

Re: IDEA: Email notification on discussion

I would alternatively like an option to disable the discussion tab on the mod pages. A support forum without automatic notification is worse than no support forum at all. It only serves as a trap for new users who do not know, that nobody will be informed about their urgent problem with a mod. And w...

Hmm, Spidertrons - would be great as an enemy faction. Abandoned alien tech that has lost its owner. They defend choke points, resources or seemingly random spots (that may have had some strategic or tatctical significance back when their owners where still present) against the biters and the player.

Re: Friday Facts #235 - 0.16 stable

Any chance we will get option to automatically download mandatory dependencies for mods? This seems to be an obvious feature to have. +1000 I would also love to have the ability to favorite mods & create lists (modpacks) directly from the website (mods.factorio.com), and be able to download a l...

There are some interesting real world de-mining devices out there. http://minekafon.org That device is extremely unreliable for any mine-cleaning task. There are devices, that are better suited for the job and currently in use in armies around the world: Rollers , Flails or even Plows can be attach...

Re: Improve Cliff-related wall placement/visualization

According to my bug report thread , the issue of unsealable gaps between cliffs and walls will be adressed in 0.16.31. As already stated, the other issues reported by the OP are not part of my bug report thread, though. I did not report them, because I wouldn't classify them as bugs, but rather sug...

Re: Friday Facts #230 - Engine modernisation

So, release in 2019? The new engine will be included in 0.17. And that is expected to hit experimental at fall (or xmas because timing matters) - this year! The common AAA game company could even go bankrupt over an engine change. But Wube is not a regular franchise-milking game company. They are a...

Re: Rail blocking equipment

It probably would not work reliably with high braking distance bonuses. Train locks segment just 2-3s before entering it in that cases, so it is still possible, it will enter segment just before the player. Also note, that if train locks segment (turn entrance signal to yellow) You can not block it...

Re: Version 0.16.25

I tested belt compression by inserters on yellow belts using my old smelter column setup and it just works. I enabled show-transport-lines and saw, that my streight belts get automatically segmented into 3-tile chunks after inserters put some items on them (belt was one segment before adding the ins...

Hmm, compression by moving the items and holes of the belt backwards?! That looks ugly. I'll just keep using splitters. Compression is easy to achieve without the new cheat anyway. But i really apreciate the fix for the search box in the mod download GUI. It was so annoying to search for anything be...

Discontinuing xp support caused massive security issues. They solved it by isolating the networks. That is, what they should have done from the start. Seriously, you don't want your production lines to be accessible from the (inter)net. Depending on the value of your company's intelectual propertie...

I recommend opt in for automatic sending of logs and a consent dialog on crash if...

There is a problem with OpenGL versions on Linux. I still only get 3.0 on my IvyBridge i7 (wich i use for playing Factorio because my gaming rig hasn't enough CPU power) as reported by glxinfo. And Intel is known for its exeptionally good Linux support. So increasing the required OpenGL version too ...

Re: Let us override inserters remove fuel from furnaces

Regarding chaining fuel through multiple boilers etc, why would you do that in stock in 0.15 or 0.16? There is the obvious case of making steel directly from ore with double smelter columns. But i also tested a space-efficient three-row boiler setup that looks great: triple row boiler setup.jpg The...

Re: Let us override inserters remove fuel from furnaces

It might be easy with a simple half coal / half iron ore belt but when you start chaining inserter, boiler, furnaces and even burning assembler you get races where fuel is temporarily lacking. Any burner-assembler-containing part of the factory has to be connected to the coal first. That is somethi...
