Re: Chemical science pack suggestion
I feel like a better solution than making blue science easier is to make grey science more useful on its own. This would mean removing the blue science pack requirement for some of the higher-level technologies. I think blue science should still be difficult - if science pack automation is the facto...

Re: Friday Facts #329 - Campaign reassessment
I was playing factorio with a friend that got the game recently, and I noticed that most of the problems they had weren't technical - they were psychological. There was an inherent fear that factorio was too complicated for them, and that made the game a lot harder. For example, when we started to g...

Re: There is something wrong with music
The sountrack to factorio is amazing, but I think anything gets old after listening to it for so long. However, I would really like to highlight how good Turbine Dynamics is. It's the best part of the OST and captures the mood perfectly. When I play with music turned on, I find myself often tuning o...

I don't know if this is possible, but what if for the receiving silo, you just played the rocket animation backwards?

Re: Global map of the planet
The starting area could just have a very low richness and ore patch size. Biomes wouldn't need to have specifically only one ore type - it could just be a strong bonus to certain ore types.

Re: Multiple Trains vs Bigger Trains?
another reason is practicality. in theory, i could indeed replace my network of ~150 1-4-1 trains with one train that has 600 wagons on a single looped track that runs through all stations but that would be kind of a PITA to setup and manage. once the fundamentals of a train network are in place (i...

Re: Multiple Trains vs Bigger Trains?
There are many benefits to larger trains, but that comes at an increased setup cost (they need larger loading and unloading setups). But isn't the setup cost decreased in a lot of ways? If you use 1 very large train, for example, you don't need stackers and can even use only one lane of rail with a...

Multiple Trains vs Bigger Trains?
I see a lot of posts on here about different junctions and signalling issues for complicated train networks where there are many different trains going on the same track. What I'm confused about is the purpose of complicated train networks. I understand that you may want junctions and whatnot if you...

Re: More infinite research: Belt speed/Train speed
In practice, trains are so big and have such huge bandwidth that most people never run into train concerns. And furthermore, traffic issues means that acceleration is the primary "cost" of sub-optimal trains. Still, faster train speeds could increase bandwith of a train-network if the net...

Re: More infinite research: Belt speed/Train speed
Basically: Infinite Research (Bot Speed) is a trap... well... almost one anyway. It improves latency characteristics so its still useful, but it cannot increase the bandwidth of Bot-based networks. So from that perspective, both Bots and Belts are equal in the scope of infinite research. Neither re...

Re: Fluid wagon vs Cargo wagon comparison: Transporting fluids
Don't forget that barrels are also nicer in the logistic network. Although a fluid handling bot would be pretty cool, it doesn't exist. As far as loading and unloading, barrelling first doesn't add much complexity and you can use bots for higher throughput. Furthermore, when you are using fluids, it...

More infinite research: Belt speed/Train speed
Just as the title implies, I think it would be a nice feature if we could upgrade belt speed and train speed just like we can upgrade bot speed. Currently in factorio, there are three main logistical methods, viz. belts, bots and trains. All with their own disadvantages and advantages. And right now...
