yes, thats an great idea. i also wrote about that in the Ideas and Suggestions tab.( https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9 ) you could also have like small train carts with a gun turret on it. and a inserter system which can restock the turret with ammo at a station. or a laser turre...

What about Armored Trains with integrated turret to defend a zone ? how long does 'experimental' take?
when does the experimental version change to stable? and how long does that usually take? any suggestions?
