Re: Friday facts #151 - The plans for 0.14

In all the nuclear power games I've played, the challenge is to keep the water at the right temperature. Too low and the fission reaction can't sustain itself. Too high and there's a nuclear meltdown. This is best left to the circuit network, and a power outage here should be potentially catastroph...

Re: Friday facts #151 - The plans for 0.14

For mining uranium, something similar and familiar could be done, similar to how uranium was mined in the early Atomic Age: Strip-mine the ore and process it using thermochemical methods, such as the Ames Process. AKA, mine it and throw it in a furnace, get uranium metal. A more modern method invol...

Help creating a custom surface

This is a quote from the patch notes. create_surface - takes a string name and optionally a table of map gen settings and creates a new surface. I can create a new surfaces easily, but as far as I can tell, the only way to get create something dramatically different would be to create a new table of...

The only way around that would be to ban flying robots while underground.

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power

Hi. I dont get it. I have pressurized water coming from the reactor wir 300 degrees and i have pressurized water running from pumps along the heat exchangers to the steam machines with 15 degrees. It flows in alternate directions but all that happens is that the waterflow drops. Greedings SKleen75 ...

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power

In order for the exchange to really work you have to alternate directions past them, i.e.: ------> XXXXX <----- This is incorrect. With the current implementation a heat exchanger will average the temperature between the two pipes every tick. It only takes into account the quantity and heat capacit...

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power

Aw, that's quite sad. Hope you can return to it in due time. I'll see if I can get the assembly to decay. I have some ideas about this. Thanks. The problem I couldn't figure out is the reprocessing side. I wanted the fuel to have multiple states of decay (ie fresh, spent, and a few points in betwee...

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power

0.5.1 This update is pretty small. The max temperature and heat capacity of pressurised water has increased, meaning its easier to use heat exchangers. Also I added a proper placeholder for the heat exchanger to reduce confusion. Unfortunately I don't think I will have the time to work on this mod ...

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power heat exchanger

I've searched in vain for this heat exchanger - all I have are the 2 pumps -Water Pressuriser and Small Pump. Do I need any more research other than your Uranium Processing.? It should be there. Could it be that you didn't start the save with 0.5.0? You might want to try typing "/c game.player...

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power

This is a really enjoyable mod - it seems quite realistic and provides a good challenge to get the fuel processing working. I can get a normal staright 18MW reactor working but when I've tried to use the heat exchanger idea I could not get any heat to transfer across to the secondary circuit. Do yo...

Re: Is it possible to access fluid prototypes?

I'd like to retrieve some fluid information: kj/degree, max temp, default temp. I can kinda work around the max temp and default temp using a 'fake' fluid box. (Create pipe, set the fluidbox type to be the fluid I want, set it on the pipe, read it back from the pipe. Set temp to something nuts like...

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power

Well I don't know about poor, but that is the most you can expect. Factorio fluid simulation is to be desired. Close loop systems do not work very well at the moment because the fluid do not actually behave like a real fluid. It is more like a bunch of finely divided chests so fluid can get "s...

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power

Had me wondering wtf was the point of your setups, until I read the part about the walls being stand-ins :P I'm still wondering though, are you using longer steam engines on the outer middle rows for the 50MW setup? I ask because you have four pipes on those rows getting heat exchanged, but only 2 ...

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power

A new update is out. The main focus of this one is to allow closed loop reactors. That means two new buildings. A heat exchanger and a fast pump. Screenshot 2015-01-10 12.57.09.png Screenshot 2015-01-10 15.35.26.png I am currently using the wall as a placeholder image for the heat exchanger. To get ...

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power

I have had this lying around for a few days. It should hopefully work for multiplayer. However I haven't been able to test it. It would be nice to know if it still doesn't work. It also changes the method for adding fuel so that it's more accurate and a bit smoother. It won't be compatible with 0.4....

You would need to get rid of any reactors and all fuel assemblies, uranium pellets, and uranium hexafluoride to get it working.

Re: [0.11.x] Uranium Power

Please excuse me, as I'm not fully competent in modding this game yet, but, when I updated from 0.3.0 to 0.4.3, the game will crash when I try to load my save with 0.3.0. Just a "Factorio has stopped working". I simply placed 0.4.3 into my mods folder and removed 0.3.0. Is that the wrong ...
