Your working directory is the /root folder, it's possible that Factorio looks there for the settings/save. Try going into the /opt/factorio folder and then call it with bin/x64/factorio.

Any exported schematics from 0.14 must be from a mod and will be incompatible with 0.15's built-in system.
However, here's what you can do:
Download them for 0.14 and open them using the mod on a 0.14 version of Factorio, then paste and build them on a map.
