Well, I had much more luck on a new map last night. My 4th attempt. I tried to focus on pollution a lot more as was suggested. Thanks guys, yes it was an early 0.17 version - cant remember what one. I am quite surprised by the Poll Results. None over 15%? Really? I expected at least one of the ~10 to be over 50% or at least close to it.

I generally find all experimental branches, even from first release n.01, to be extremely reliable. Of course there are sometimes exceptions, but overall its one of the most stable and well tested games i've ever come across. Hi, I'm standing still, being bitten and hit from spitters (no worms), and all i'm wearing is Modular armour with 2x Mk1 Shields, and barely taking any damage. Every few seconds i'll see the shield bar appear and drop down 1-2mm, then immediately recover back to full and disappear half a second late...

My approach requires blue and grey science: Make a Power Armour, some Mk2 Shields and Mk2 batteries, and lots of personal solar panels, and basically run in to a cluster of nests/worms, flamethrower everything, and run out. Very easy with proper suit and shields on. And nests keep taking fire damage...
