Re: Savefile for train testing

aaargha has been inactive for awhile. There is an updated savefile where you only can test 4 way throughput. I have an unofficial updated version which is a bit easier to understand, down in signatures.

Re: High throughput T junction in action

Cool cool, I like it.
It looks like a 10car version of a intersection I have, but with extra right turning lanes.
You can cut quite many lanes on both the 3 and 4 way intersection. Here is a pic where the lanes marked red can be cut and you keep the same throughput.

Here are the missing signals on the other intersection
Edit: Was missing another signal, updated the picture

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]

Hey Thanks again for taking a look. Does it make a difference if I have the once marked with an x to be regular or chain signal? If they are chain signals trains have to wait longer for their turn. It doesn't have a huge impact but a little. The red x ones you can remove. However the missing signal...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]

Hey I looked at the compact one. You miss a couple signals. That is why it performes poorly. You can also replace the chainsignales marked with x with normal signal and remove the ones marked with a red X. This cropped area is the most loaded and the bottleneck in your intersection. Having the U-tur...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]

Good that you got it to run!
I wrote wrong I meant opposing trains. Like opposing straight going trains shouldn't cross eachothers path or opposing left going trains. People really only do that mistake with left going trains.

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]

Hey! I'll check it thoroughly when I am back home in q couple days. You can try my version of the testbench which is easier to use. The first thing I see that drastically cuts throughput is that the inner lane has to change lane twice to go either right or left. Secondly left turns for the innerlane...

Combinator bugging out

Hey! I use a combinator counter and i noticed it bugges out sometimes. Sometimes it stops counting. I made a clip showing the issues and how to reproduce. I am not sure on which patch this started. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NUVlOZDk08&feature=youtu.be Reproduce Remove the constant combinator ...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]

Thanks for your submission! set 1 = 93 set 3 = 85 I like the improvement, you pull some of the intersecting lanes away from the center. That would put your intersection fourth on the list for 4 lanes 4 way intersections. You can part this intersection into two sections. The section where trains pick...

Nice nice! Good to see a post=)
When you say you, do you mean aaargha? Because he hasn't tested anything in awhile.
I'll take a look at it

Why have you placed chainsignals? You don't need any of them.

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]

Yeah it looks like multiple levels.
But if factorio where to include bridges and make making high throughput networks easier, there should be some drawbacks like in OpenTTD where curves and bridges slows down trains significantly.

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]

It can drastically improve small intersection, but in mine intersection and some others the limitation of throughput is merging lanes.
I consider using this as cheating and taking away challenge.

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]

The copy blueprint isn't working. The first intersection looks really good now! On the second, three lanes parallel one. Merging is a bottleneck no doubt. I got a combinator based merger you could try. Its in my signatur. I have two changes Cutting the extra right turn waiting bays. They just makes ...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]

Cool, I like it! There are two change I want to make. Trains from three or more lanes should merge in the same block. The current merger favors right turns, also throughput of the merger is higher if they merge in the same block. Moving right turns looks the easiest. Second is adding chain signals h...

Re: 4-way intersections: Throughput and deadlocks [image heavy]

Hey, I have looked at it There is one major throughput limiter and that is in the center for all 4 straight paths. In circle 1 straight driving trains have to wait for potentially 4 different trains to pass. Therefore they can only pass every fifth time on average with heavy load. If you were to mak...

Similar to some of the designs posted, but it works well.
I have seen that multiple times before.
Works ok but you should preferably keep turnarounds out of the intersection, atleast in busy areas

Does today's patch (0.17.38) change all of the deadlock discussions?
It probably does, needs to be tested first.
