Re: Friday Facts #248 - Not Saturday Facts
So they are working on the fluid physics. it's quirks made it one of the few subsystems in Factorio that didn't live up to the dev's overall standards. I'm quite delighted to learn they're working on it for real—and not just announcing they may take a look.

Re: Factorio is not a game. It's a toy
To me it's like saying Factorio isn't technically an airplane.
To many other people too, I guess. Nevertheless, the last FFF showed quite clearly that not all, possibly including parts of the dev team, see Factorio as a toy. The whole Bot/Belt debate would hardly happen if everyone agreed on that ...

Factorio is not a game. It's a toy
Factorio is awesome.
But it's not an awesome game. It's an awesome toy (or sandbox). I mean that in a technical way, described in this video . It divides interactive systems in 4 categories: toys, puzzles, contests, and games. Toys are interactive systems whose primary value is to try stuff and see ...

Re: Friday Facts #221 - 0.16 is out
That belt buffer mod look awesome ! This might just be the buff we need.
See, one big problem with belts (compared to bots) is the reduced throughput of inserters: currently, inserters need to wait for all the items to drop on the belt. When they transfer to (or from) a chest, they just drop (or ...

Re: Friday Facts #221 - 0.16 is out
Beating on the compression dead horse, I was surprised and disappointed to learn that compression became harder than it was before. I expected it would be easier . As far as I know, there are 3 ways of putting stuff in a belt: inserter, side loading, and miners. First, there are a few consistency ...

Re: Friday Facts #205 - Teaching the things that everybody knows
I'm not sure I understand basic fluid mechanic.
Everyone knows that 1 boiler feeds 2 steam engines, and 1 offshore pump feeds 20 boilers (and therefore 40 steam engines), for a total of 40MW (I think).
Question is, how are we supposed to figure this out? My only hints came from the campaign and ...

On the proper choice of Hashes
My 2 cents about CRC vs SHA vs just about anything else. I've written a crypto library¹ and learned quite a bit in the process, so I think I kinda know what I'm talking about.
My recommendation for the hash would be Blake2b, for the following reasons (most of which have already been said in this ...

Rename "Advanced circuit" to "Integrated circuit"
The current circuits naming is a bit inconsistent:
Electronic circuit
Advanced circuit
Processing unit
It would seem "Advanced circuit" was a placeholder term, for which no good name was found at first. With "Integrated circuit" instead, we get this:
Electronic circuit
Integrated ...
