Re: Licensing and mod portal

I want to add that I think we all agree on this, but the game right now is making it difficult for people who aren't knowledgeable about these things. I'd also like to add that the reason I made the thread was to make it clear what is and what isn't ok to do. Because I really want to respect mod cr...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

No - I'm interested in figuring out how to interpret the CC NC license Again, wrong license. Get it right. Your career as a "content creator" might depend on it. 48 hours of personal attacks, harrassment and ridicule from the "streaming community" and all its lovely "follow...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

No, I have no interest personally in playing your mod - not on my own, and not in a stream or Let's Play. So you're just interested in grilling random people on the internet about their legal interpretion of your own day job. If you don't want to play my mod, what was the Spanish Inquisition for? N...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

I mean, you couldn't make it up. People, who have set up an account and maybe even a contract with an online streaming platform, and who have also set up an account and a contract with another company that lets people give them donations of literal money (in return for taking a cut of it), said don...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

Everyone understands the non-commercial clause differently, so seemingly nobody understands its full extent. Creative commons, the authors of the license, did a study on how people understand the non-commercial clause for that reason: https://mirrors.creativecommons.org/defining-noncommercial/Defin...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

You are also the "content creator" (I don't know why you put quotation marks around that) of the mod. Are you actually saying outright that you have licensed your mod under a license that you do not understand the full extent of, and that it's my job to interpret your intentions of the li...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

... At the condition I give credit to Deadlock, add a link to the CC BY-NC 4.0 in the vid description and don't make money with that particular video, aka I demonetize it, don't add my patreon/tipeee/youtip/paypal, and don't explicitely tell people to donate during the video. That is more or less h...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

And Deadlock clearly has no intent of answering that question I can't give you legal advice because I'm not qualified to do so. If I were qualified to do so, I would probably charge you for it. You are the "content creator". It's your job to understand what you're doing. You are also the ...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

Streamers who make a living from it are not playing games for fun, they play to make a living. When I worked as a systems engineer, I did not only do it to make a living. I did it because I loved doing it. That I was getting paid for doing it by my employer was fantastic. Yes, there are jobs out th...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

Yes, I am arguing from the human point, and I am acutely aware of legal age and also "ignorantia juris non excusat". We're talking about mod creators here - people who make works for fun. Not multi-million corporate entities that would sue anyone if there was even the slightest whiff of mo...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

I can fully understand no one wanting to read that unreadable legalese. But if you are self employed you run a business and have to read and comply to that crap. This reminds me of discussions that I've encountered in various Linux forums/communities... It is very technical, and it makes certain as...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

Someone mentioned "what about asking nicely?" The way this whole story began was that I saw the FFF of course; mod looked interesting. After hearing from someone in my community that his license prohibited streaming, that's the first thing I did -- I sent Deadlock and email, offering to l...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

All these streamers who have been streaming that you reference to Don't know, don't care, leave me alone. If you don't know or care, then why create a specific non-commercial license on your mod in the first place? I mean, the least I would expect from someone who takes such an aggressive stance to...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

KatherineOfSky, or anyone else, can stream the mod on a 24/7 marathon for all I care. They just have to do it non-commercially. Just like the streamers who have been streaming IR all weekend without taking any donations or advertising revenue. All these streamers who have been streaming that you re...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

Just for context: I wasn't sure if the FFF is considered commercial, expressed that to deadlock and he gave me written permission. Not any problem whatsoever. I would argue that the FFF could be considered commercial in the sense that it is a way of both connecting with existing customers and reach...

Re: Licensing and mod portal

The hostility and negativity in this thread baffles me slightly - but then again, I am not surprised judging by the fact that we're talking about money here. I am a small-time YouTuber myself, and I have occasionally dabbled in modding in some games in the past - and thus I can see this debate from ...

Re: Observer mode in Multiplayer

Something like /c game.player.character=nil script.on_event(defines.events.on_tick, function(event) game.players[2].teleport(game.players[1].position) end) (adjust player numbers to taste) Sorry for the late response - but thank you very, very much! That worked wonderfully! For the record you can a...

Observer mode in Multiplayer

Hey! So, I've found out how you can take over another player's body and items through using the LUA console, which was funny, and slightly creepy - but not exactly what I was looking to do. So I figured I'd ask here in the forums for what I would like to do. Is there a way that you can go into ghost...
