Re: Using trains to transport resources that are getting low?

Yeah that's much more compact than I had imagined as well. Short trains, but as I said I only want to do four cars so not all that much bigger. And sorry, I'm really good at walls of text. Basically it allows precise control of resource flow from all mines to which you connect the logistics signal. ...

Re: Active Provider Chests?

I have used them for caching off my sorting system. Can hold a few million ore buffer, in a dedicated logistics network. I also use them to move things like raw wood out of one network. And into another one that will eventually put it on a train to bring back to main sorting. And the really interest...

Re: Optimize Drone Movement

Bot flight paths are actually probably very nearly optimal in the average case . The biggest thing to understand here is that the bot routing algorithm is not designed to optimize the flight path of an individual bot, but to avoid congestion in the network. This is very much in the spirit of Factori...

Re: Logistics robot network feedback loop

This new system could also adapt to changing needs. If there is a sudden need for double the items in the same time the player wouldn't have to tweak every request, but the network would notice this and would assign more robots on the job. This might be possible with combinators in 0.15 :) This is ...

Re: Creating custom robotic networks

I have used lognet pretty extensively, as I agree it is a log of fun to optimize and I love 'future tech' tree in all games like this. I've found that it's actually an incredibly flexible and powerful system, and that most of the thoughts I had like these go away once you understand the constraints ...

Re: Using trains to transport resources that are getting low?

While impressive, I don't see why all this is necessary, what does it actually accomplish? If you're still going to have separate train lines for each resource, then you may as well just store them in the station and have the train go retrieve more when its wagon is empty? None of this is necessary...

Re: Using trains to transport resources that are getting low?

This can be done using vanilla logistics. Or at least kind of; I'm trying to figure it out still. The biggest limitation, as you've noted, is that you need a separate train line for each resource. I use same name stations for mines, so I can adjust how many trains I have going to all iron/copper min...

Re: Convert signal type using decider combinators

Yeah I wasn't thinking about boolean output when I said they're passive. That's a good point.
I think some sort of tutorial is in the works, atm there is very little intro to circuits in the game. (Of course, there is a fantastic community forum to fill the gap in the mean time!)

Re: Convert signal type using decider combinators

No, this is intentional. Think of it like this: if you want to change a value (i.e. with arithmetical operators) use an arithmetic combinator; if you want to read/evaluate a signal, use decider combinator. The reason it works this way is that the decider combinator can have multiple input values. I'...

Re: Smart trains? Same name stations

Can I name all my mining stations something like „get ores“ put some trains in the network all go to „get ores“ till full and then to the ore drop off till empty. Yes. This isn't necessarily easy to accomplish, nor is it perfect (sometimes trains wait in front of empty station while other station i...
