Re: Friday Facts #331 - 0.18.0 release & Train pathfinder changes
I'd like to add my own data point to the NPE/Campaign conversation. I've been a programmer for decades now and I enjoy the process of finding the way through a tricky problem and having something nice to show for it at the end. When I first saw factorio it immediately called to me as the production ...

What I learned building multi-belt balancers
I've been thinking about this for a while now and decided to finally write it all up. This is my attempt at explaining how to build multi-belt balancers, how to fix their throughput in non-optimal cases, and generally bring together everything I've learned from building my own balancer and reading ...

Tileable Nuclear Reactor Design
Since 0.15 came out I've been working on making a nice nuclear reactor design and have wanted to have an easily tileable design (i.e. 2 rows of reactors next to each other for maximum bonuses). My first setup was inefficient but worked well until the heat pipes were nerfed. My second design works ...

Re: [0.15.17] [Hanziq] Game crashes when placing logistics chest
I had an inkling this might be graphics related due to the high res inserters added in this release so I turned off a bunch of the graphics options: tree sprite mipmaps, linear filtering for icons, specialized sprite atlases, and texture compression and I haven't gotten a hang since.

Yep, same for me, random hangs and I need to kill factorio. macOS, Steam

Re: [0.15.16] Middle mouse not working any more
Never mind, I just checked my configuration and it looks like my configuration got changed to use mouse button 4 instead of middle mouse button for the filters. I switched it and it's working again.

[0.15.16] Middle mouse not working any more
I'm unable to use middle mouse to filter the toolbar or set filters on train cars. This is on macOS, Steam, with a Steam Controller that has always worked previously.

Re: fractal 512 belt balancer
I haven't found a better solution than putting 2 balancers in series to fix the throughput problems. There are clos networks which are theoretically the "right" way to do it, but the balancers I've found based on clos networks have more balancers in them than the doubled balancers I've found ...

Re: [0.15.x] Massive biter armies tanking UPS
@Loewchen I noticed it in 0.15.13, I think and it continued in 0.15.14. I could be remembering wrong, though. I know I saw some huge armies back in the early 0.15 versions, though, so I think it was 0.15 in general.

Re: fractal 512 belt balancer
Well....after playing around quite a bit with building my own balancers and going through the posts on throughput issues with large balancers I have an example of the problem with your 8-belt balancer:

and would love to use these
You must have a big belt base then. Really big. Show me :D
Well, it's actually a large rail base but I find myself in need of some larger balancers to deal with ore in particular. You can download a save of my base from this bug report:

Re: [0.15.11] Heat pipe propagation severely nerfed
I had to tear down my nuclear reactor by halves and deal with low power and rebuild it with a new layout. This is the only way I could find to make an easily tileable layout which uses all of the neighbor bonuses.

[0.15.x] Massive biter armies tanking UPS
I've been building a large base in 0.15 (~160 hours) and the biters are building up very large armies that aren't attacking and are taking my UPS. In this save I'm usually around 10 UPS. If I kill all of the biters with a script my UPS goes up to almost 30.

[0.15.14] Crash when setting icon to number in blueprint
I took a blueprint after updating to 0.15.14 today, clicked on one of the empty label icon slots at the top, selected the rightmost "tab" of the selection popup so that I could choose a number and factorio crashed before displaying the list of icons on that tab.

[Posila] [0.15.13]Crash on startup after computer crashed
I was deconstructing a roboport when my computer hung and then restarted Finder. On trying to start factorio again it told me it was locked. After rebooting and logging in again factorio crashed when I tried to start it up.
Log attached.

I believe the same change also broke right-clicking on the elements at the top of the blueprint window to remove all of that element.

Re: [0.15.11] Heat pipe propagation severely nerfed
I liked my tiled nuclear power design....oh well, I guess I'll have to go with a single long line for each reactor now. The heat problems and changes have definitely made it hard to use the full potential of nuclear reactors with maximum neighbor bonuses. The heat pipe, heat exchanger, and steam ...

[0.15.11] Heat pipe propagation severely nerfed
Heat is no longer propagating nearly as far as it used to along the heat pipes after upgrading to 0.15.11. My large nuclear power plant is no longer working at its previous capacity as the heat cannot reach the heat exchangers.

Re: 512 fractal belt balancer
I love fractals (I have a tattoo of the dragon curve) and would love to use these, but are they non-throughput-limited (i.e. clos networks)?
