Well this is a bizarre occurrence! After downloading the demo and finding that it worked correctly, I then attempted to run the game again and it seems to have started working

I have no idea what has happened but at least I can play again

When I load the game, it gets to about 48% then crashes to the desktop with no error messages. I have no mods installed and have tried the usual steam stuff including a full uninstall/reinstall.
