Re: Looks like I will never learn (caution: noob at work)
Exactly 7:30 into the game now. I got blue science up and running, researched military stuff, and finally got poison grenades and cleaned out some nests in the vicinity, yielding a total of 450 purple beakers. http://i310.photobucket.com/albums/kk414/Westheim/stuff114_zps4ac37e67.jpg That's all I ha...

Re: Looks like I will never learn (caution: noob at work)
It's not visible in the screens above, but just south of the part of the map shown there are biter nests with worms (still no poison...) Expanded a bit, some five hours into the game: http://i310.photobucket.com/albums/kk414/Westheim/stuff112_zps2f19b138.jpg Orange is my oil refinery, which produces...

Re: Looks like I will never learn (caution: noob at work)
Thx, but... then it wouldn't be "mine" anymore and I would lose interest instantly. You can drop poison capsules at the very edge of their range and have them slowly eat away at the worms. Two hours into a game (2:12 to be exact) I had barely enough researched to get the green beakers auto...

Looks like I will never learn (caution: noob at work)
So, I haven't played in some four or five weeks while waiting for a stable 0.10 version, and got it on Sunday, finally. This is just two hours in my first game with it, and I already boxed myself into oblivion. Looks like I will never learn how to properly plan a factory. http://i310.photobucket.com...

Re: Pollution attracting Biters to base before I can prepare
Early on, even a few gun turrets alone might do. I find it more time consuming to have the walls built (especially since you will easily need 3-400 for even a moderately sized base) than a dozen turrets and ammo.

Re: Struggling with train station layout / signals
Dumb question. Why did I not use smart inserters in the oil dropoff station? Initially, the inner loop wasn't even there. I wanted one station to drop off barrels AND reload empty barrels. It didn't work because one battery of inserters shoveled empty barrels into the train and the other battery of ...

Re: Struggling with train station layout / signals
Well, still not working. I noticed that the train from oil line 1 is occasionally running rampant all over the system, running north (loaded with oil barrels), making a loop and coming back down to the oil dropoff, but it races straight through it, loops around (at a speed defying certain physical l...

Re: Struggling with train station layout / signals
Seriously though, no offense to who did it, but the block working section in the wiki is so badly written ... there is everything in there, which I now realize that I was told what my issue was, but it fails to actually tell you HOW to build a working system. It's a swath of text with lots of bold, ...

Re: Train network issue (basic)
Without looking at the save, do you have a train passing a signal on its left side (so the signal goes the opposite direction), without a signal on its right side on the same spot on a piece of rail that is used in either way?
That just derailed my game pretty good...

Re: Struggling with train station layout / signals
Also a train may not pass a signal on it's left unless there is also one on it's right, I believe. Problem solved! http://i310.photobucket.com/albums/kk414/Westheim/stuff96_zps7d8301e6.jpg The circled signals were all just going one way, facing the middle part, before. By the time I placed the last...

Re: Struggling with train station layout / signals
Well, my system here has stopped working altogether now. The northern train persistently gives a "no path" return now that I added another loop to mine copper. I have to make the northern oil and the copper train share some stretch of rails because of the watery confines here, and although...

Re: Struggling with train station layout / signals
Maybe you found a bug? ;) No, it's always Daniel's fault. Try moving up the signal that should have been red to after where those two pieces of track met. With that slightly weird loop you've got there might be a gap that means the whole system is one block or something. Try moving signals ar...

Re: Struggling with train station layout / signals
There are signals, but I think I missed at least one (on the northeastern corner of the loop), but that still doesn't explain why the signal didn't protect the train in the dropoff station... ![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)

Struggling with train station layout / signals
So, it's Daniel again, the guy that can't do anything right. In my current game, I have included trains for the first time. My initial base was short of iron ore and once I was able to clear a cluster of four worms from a huge iron deposit further east, I expanded there with a mining enterprise. Som...

Re: New and need some information about factorio
May I throw in that I find the graphics fantastic as they are, and that they could just use some more contrast (between some trees and iron or coal deposits f.e.)?

Re: 4 belt balancer
On paper, it does work. No, really. I ran an extensive "on paper" test in the office today. :D Unless one or more are fully loaded, all belts will come out even. Assume input (per minute): Belt 1: 30 Belt 2: 20 Belt 3: 18 Belt 4: 12 First two and last two get "split": Belt 1: 25 ...

Re: 4 belt balancer
So, I'm the noob here, and I know nothing, but ... why do you split the upper lane into two lanes before moving them down and recombine them? This serves no obvious purpose for me?
I'm sure there is some smart reasoning behind it. I would just like to know...

Re: Basic strategy for taking out biter nests?
Well, I have everything on "normal" except for biter nest frequency and size, which is "low". That usually gives you quite some room. I just didn't discover enough of the area early on so I didn't find out that my new start was - because of the very sparse iron ore - doomed regar...

Re: Basic strategy for taking out biter nests?
Yeah, like basic rules: leave yourself enough f-ing room when building your base, even early in the game. I started a new game to see whether they are easier to take down very early, and ... SWELL NEWS!! I took down my first biter colony! http://i310.photobucket.com/albums/kk414/Westheim/stuff88_zps...
