Re: Friday Facts #405 - Whole belt reader, New logistics GUI
EDIT: turns out, I need to type faster. It doesn't hurt to reinforce that this is a feature that multiple people want. I too would love to have an easy way to determine where specific items are stored. Sometimes, after using the logistics window to confirm that the item does exist, I want to just g...

Re: Friday Facts #403 - Train stops 2.0
[*]It would be a lot easier if the " HOLD [ctrl+]shift" for rail planner [with obstacle avoidance] was replaced with "press shift/ctrl to TOGGLE ", as it would also help in resolving the above issue. Going further, if it is a toggle, then there's no need to even use modifier key...

Re: Friday Facts #388 - Smaller things for 2.0
Wouldn't it be better if it showed the full possible length of the underground at all times? That way you'd actually know without having to ratchet it up one by one. Kinda like how Transport Tycoon does it with tunnels. Sort of like in the Show Max Underground Distance mod? I love that mod, so simp...

Re: Version 0.16.16
Changed splitters so they work more intuitively. The left and right lane splitting is now completely independent. The decision whether item goes to left or right output is now independent of the item type. Thank you!!! The dependence between the two lanes once caused me so much trouble while I was ...

Re: Fluid wagon vs Cargo wagon comparison: Transporting fluids
How many pumps are you using per wagon? You can use up to three: one within the first two tiles of the wagon, one along the middle two tiles, and one along the back two tiles.Steambirds wrote:How do I speedily load/unload a fluid wagon? It always takes like a minute for me.

Yeah, all they changed was decreasing the 'step' zoom change step. Still seems to undermine the whole benefit of being able to remote view larger areas covered by radar, as the remote viewable area is still smaller than what you can view locally. Dealing with longer blueprints is still just as anno...

Rework Reactor Neighbor Bonus to Promote Interesting Layouts
TL;DR Extend nuclear reactor neighbor bonus to indirectly connected reactors, with bonus based on distance, in order to encourage experimentation with layout, getting away from the simple 2-by-X design. The Motivation Regarding nuclear reactor design, the developers have indicated that their hope w...

Anybody else notice that under the train station, "read stoppped train" can be checked, assigned a variable, however when you exit/return, it's no longer clicked (however it does appear to still advertise the stopped train)? Is it just me?! Yup. On loading the panel, it seems to be using ...

Increase Big Electric Pole Wire Reach to 32 to = Chunk Size
The current wire reach for the big electric pole is 30 tiles. I like to design my blueprints and layouts to match the 32x32 chunk size, because the grid visible when paused is a great layout tool. When combined with big electric poles, for example with blueprints for rail, this requires doubling up ...

Re: Version 0.13.9
TL;DR - Targeting behavior of biters seems different than in 0.12, increasing the need for spamming turrets everywhere to keep the base safe; I suggest that biters should wander along walls a bit before attacking them. Regarding how biter behavior feels more aggressive than before, I'm guessing it m...

Re: What is this machine on the background image?
To me it just looks like an assembling machine obscured by a power pole and steam. It's got that truncated steep pyramid with rounded corners look. Though when compared to the two assembling machines in the further background, top-left corner, it does seems to be a somewhat different model.

Re: Version 0.13.3
You seem to not understand this - every level you research upgrades the previous score by that extra bonus: let's assume that we have bullet damage of 100: ... level 4 gives you +20% extra damage (so effectively you have damage=145.2+145.2*0.2=174.24) Not quite. Checking the Bonuses panel, I can se...

You can use the (R)otate key to force the end piece to be the orientation you want, when you're in ghost placement mode.

Re: I can't get my achievements on steam.
Achievements won't be, well, achievable until version 0.13 is released, sometime in the coming days/weeks most likely. And even once 0.13 is out, someone still running 0.12 (the latest stable release for quite a while probably) still won't be able to earn the achievements, I bet, as I think they're ...

Re: Friday Facts #141 - Mod Portal
I'm mostly fine with whatever rating system is used, but I suspect much displeasure with rating systems comes from the fact that a single value is a severe oversimplification of just about any sort of judgment. Trying to break it up into multiple categories is tricky, though; don't wanna go overboar...

In your Steam games list, right click on Factorio and select Properties. Then select the BETAS tab. You should be able to select 0.12.35 specifically from the dropdown labeled "Select the beta you would like to opt into", and I think it will stay on exactly that version. Though I'm not sur...

Re: Game FPS at End game
I just triple checked Resource Monitor on Facotorio running at 10 fps and cores 0-7 on my PC and none are hitting 99% usage. When I changed my the PID's affinity to a specific core it is at 100%. If i gave it only two courses it used 80% of core 7 and about 40% of core 6. So I think the game is mul...

D) No bots/No Belts. Take your pick. Both challenges have their fun. The way you wrote that made me first imagine a challenge of disallowing both bots and belts simultaneously. Nothing but inserters! That could be interesting, albeit painful at times. Might make train usage become more pervasive; m...
