Currently different terrain tiles can have their own `walking` sounds (a list of sound files, one is played at random each step). It's just that most terrain tiles don't have custom sounds yet. That's by design, if you don't want achievements don't join other peoples public games. That's by design? do you have any idea what you are talking about? You should check a doctor with that logic of yours LOL (in my opinion of course ;) , you could tell me in the first place not to join one before...
