[...] Actually, this is not true. My PC still has a 32-bit processor, an AMD Sempron 140 and still is able to play factorio with bobs mods. So that is really just not true. Just in case someone finds this through Google...
It's possible to keep using the Steam version and still have a console.
Use "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS..." from Factorio's properties in Steam and set them to:

Go to advanced search
