Re: A compact base v2

rubberduck: glad you like it :) Nich: Yeah, the base absolutely inhales green circuits (and copper by extension). The rest of the base has a trivial copper draw compared to that. Also you're right about the science district, and I wouldn't even need AM3s. The blue science assemblers draw a combined...

A compact base v2

I decided to finish rebuilding my compact base . Thanks to those who provided feedback! I managed to make some improvements: * Rail yard: Significantly smaller and better throughput. (credit) * Foundry: Straight up stole dragontamer5788's steel furnace setup . * Green circuits: Completely redesigned...

Re: Mine depletion indicators (Muliplexing/Demultiplexing by Modulo Operations)

Acarin : I like the idea of a "running low" indicator, but I suspect your criteria might not give you quite what you're looking for. The buffer quantity fluctuates quite a bit depending on the size of the mine, location of the train, and the resource type. I found that the base 3 system d...

Re: Mine depletion indicators (Muliplexing/Demultiplexing by Modulo Operations)

doxsroxs : I'm glad to hear this might be helpful to someone. Let me know how it goes. Actually I almost adopted a design like yours in my base, but I found it easier to build a large block of dedicated trainstops for 1-1 trains. I might revisit that decision in my next base. To your point about bl...

Re: Mine depletion indicators

By the way, I haven't downloaded the mod to create blueprint strings yet. If some enterprising soul would like to save me the trouble and blueprint a few of these structures I'd be obliged.

Re: A compact base

Haha! I guess that means it's time to write up an explanation. Here you go. Be warned: there's a bit of math involved.

Mine depletion indicators (Muliplexing/Demultiplexing by Modulo Operations)

I've already posted a picture of my base in this thread , but there were questions about my mine depletion indicators, so I thought I'd describe them in more detail. Problem Statement Iron, copper, coal, and stone mines can be spread quite far over the map. Each deposit has a finite amount of resour...

Re: A compact base

dragontamer5788 : Beacons and productivity modules are more than my little brain can handle (and they're expensive!). I think I'll optimize for plain AM3s and steel furnaces everywhere. Even with that I'm going to save a lot of space. And since these resources are upstream of absolutely everything,...

Re: A compact base

dragontamer5788 : I've outlined a new design to replace my green circuits based on your feedback. It's not quite right yet. The splitters might not be necessary, since I don't need 100% compression anymore, and I don't know if I can feed multiple copies of this setup with only one belt of iron. I'l...

Re: A compact base

brunzenstein : I've never seen those before either. Maybe a mod going haywire? Odd. dragontamer5788 : 1. I was hoping no one would notice that :). I was nearly done with my base before I realized that the AMs had different build speeds, which means all my ratio math is wrong. I assumed it was just ...

Re: A compact base

Here's a picture of the map showing my rails and solar arrays. Oil was hard to find (as always), so that determined the size and shape of the rail system. The game is vanilla with all default values except peaceful mode so I can prototype in peace. map.jpg Koub : I'm using the 9x9 Blueprint template...

A compact base

I decided the best way to take advantage of Factorio's infinite maps was to build a really cramped base in the starting location. Here's the result (hi rez warning: 12,000x6,500 pixels). There's nothing novel in the design outside of a few overly-Macgyvered belts and inserters. Oh, and the the mine ...
