having to mine oil, before I can build the refineries are annoying as hell. Since setting up the oil outpost is the last step in getting oil up and running, not the first

How can you decide to not fix the totally broken map generation before 17??!!
It has quite effectively stopped me from playing Factorio. There's going to be a flood of complaints when this is moved to stable release.
Currently the map is:
- random tiny cliffs in starting area, no real cliff walls ...

I was so looking forward to .16 to. Love the idea of Cliffs, and artillery would make it less of chore to expand on death worlds.
But I hate how the maps looks now, so can't ever get into a game.
- Cliffs are just small annoying obstacles. Not real cliff faces that can function as walls.
- No lakes ...

I'm not sure if this is a bug or intentional, but I can't seem to locate the recipe to barrel Liquid Fuel anymore after all the barreling was consolidated to the Barreling and Fluid Handling tab.
Hell, I can't really find any use for liquid fuel.
You can still turn fuel oil to solid fuel or gas ...

I don't really care how random you want the map generator, but imo it needs an overhaul.
Getting a map I like seem impossible.
Either I get nothing of one or more resources or I get enough to last me to the end game. Both of these makes for boring games.
And it need to stop putting me on a bloody ...

Map Settings
Any information on how the different map settings work?
Richness seems to work just about how you would think, higher settings means more stuff per tile.
But as far as Frequency and Size goes, I can barely see that it does anything at all. I just got 8 oil fields, 3 tiny iron and two huge copper ...
